As Assistant Finance Manager you will be working closely with our Finance Manager / Head of Finance providing support and general Financial administrative duties. We are hiring on attitude and willingness to learn with a view to progression within the Company over time.
Supporting the Finance Manager and wider finance function with day-to-day accounting and operational finance activities, including:
- Processing service timesheets into Sage from paper and email submissions with a high level of accuracy.
- Monitoring outstanding timesheets and liaising with department managers weekly to ensure all submissions are received within payroll deadlines.
- Assisting with payroll administration and providing support across the wider finance team when required.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with company procedures.
- Raising and issuing client invoices promptly and accurately.
- Handling account and billing queries from clients, project managers, and internal stakeholders via phone and email.
- Managing and updating project costs and revenue using project accounting software.
- Supporting credit control activities, including monitoring outstanding payments and following up on overdue accounts.
- Assisting with month-end and year-end finance processes, including audit preparation and reconciliations.
- Contributing to continuous improvement within finance processes and supporting the smooth running of the finance department.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a finance or accounts role, ideally within a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of accounting principles, including journals, reconciliations, and transactional finance processes.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships across departments.
- Proactive and flexible approach with a willingness to support the wider finance team where needed.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Experience sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues within a finance environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- AAT Level 4 qualified or above.
- Experience with invoicing, accounts administration, and finance systems.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Experience using Sage Line 50/Sage Accounts is advantageous.
- Previous experience in an Assistant Finance Manager, Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, or similar role is preferred.
- Experience within the construction sector would be beneficial, although not essential.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and develop professionally.
