About the Role

Wickhambrook Surgery is looking to welcome, into our busy practice, a qualified dispenser to play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team. This role is to start asap and is offered on a part-time permanent basis, working Monday to Friday. We are looking for approximately 19-24 hours per week, however we are flexible and can discuss at interview.

The main responsibilities of the role:

Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme.
Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
Process dossette boxes.
Manage ordering stock and stock control.
Answer and deal with dispensary phone enquiries.
Monitor patients’ exemption status.
Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication.
Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the either the dispensary manager or practice manager.

About the Candidate

If you are an experienced dispenser looking for an exciting new role, then we'd love to hear from you.

You will have the following skills and experience:

NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification together with 2 years dispensing experience are essential.
The ability to easily commute to our practice.
Excellent clinical and medication knowledge.
Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in GP practice setting.
The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career.
The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary practice team and using your own initiative in decision making.
The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach.
Excellent patient facing inter-personal communication skills.

Our practice is located within the beautiful Suffolk village of Wickhambrook between Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Haverhill. The practice runs from a purpose-built building.
We serve a patient population of approximately 5,200 patients, dispensing nearly 100% of the practice population.

Our traditional approach and family friendly ethos is very much appreciated by our patients.

Teamwork is key to a well run dispensary. Our friendly dispensary team are committed to providing excellent patient service under the leadership of a dedicated Dispensary Manager. Working in general practice is busy, but it is also very rewarding. Knowing that we are helping our patient in what can sometimes be difficult periods in their lives is very satisfying.
