Salary: £45,000–£65,000 depending on experience
Location: Remote-first, with weekly in-person meetings at our Derbyshire office
Working pattern: Full-time, 4-day working week on compressed hours
Job type: Permanent
Glusoft is looking for a Senior C# .NET Developer to help us build and improve large, data-driven software applications for clients.
This is a hands-on senior development role for someone who enjoys solving real business problems, building reliable software, and having a genuine say in technical decisions.
You will work a 4-day working week on compressed hours, remotely most of the time, with one in-person meeting each week at our Derbyshire office. Because of this, the role is best suited to someone who lives within a reasonable travelling distance of Derbyshire and can attend weekly sessions reliably.
About the role
Our core work is building business-critical software for clients. These are data-driven applications that support real operational processes, integrate with other systems, and are used by customers and teams who rely on them every day.
You will be involved in designing, building and improving applications using C# and .NET, with work across APIs, integrations, backend services, data models, user interfaces and client workflows.
This is not a narrow coding role. We are looking for someone who can understand requirements, think through technical design, make sensible architecture decisions, and take responsibility for the quality of what is delivered.
Alongside our core application development, we are also helping clients adopt richer AI-enabled solutions where they add genuine value. This could include intelligent search, workflow automation, AI-assisted data processing, internal assistants, customer-facing tools, or integrations between AI services and existing client systems.
AI is not the main focus of the role, but it is an important growth area for us. We are looking for someone who is interested in building practical, secure and well-integrated software solutions, including AI-enabled features where they support real client needs.
What you’ll be doing
- Building and maintaining large, data-driven applications using C# and .NET.
- Developing APIs, integrations and backend services.
- Working with databases, data models and client workflows.
- Improving existing systems for performance, reliability and maintainability.
- Debugging, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Taking ownership of technical work from design through to delivery.
- Reviewing code for correctness, maintainability, security and architectural fit.
- Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders to understand problems and deliver useful software.
- Helping shape technical direction, architecture and development practices.
- Supporting and mentoring other developers where appropriate.
- Contributing to AI-enabled features and integrations where they support wider client applications.
What we’re looking for
You should have strong commercial experience with:
- At least 7 years’ commercial software development experience.
- C# and the .NET ecosystem.
- Building and maintaining business-critical software.
- Developing data-driven applications.
- Web APIs, integrations or service-based applications.
- Working with databases and data models.
- Debugging, troubleshooting and improving existing systems.
- Writing clean, maintainable code.
- Understanding how individual changes affect a wider software system.
- Considering security, data protection, access control and operational risk.
- Working with source control and modern development workflows.
- Taking ownership of technical decisions and delivery.
- Angular or modern frontend web application development.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent commercial experience.
We are looking for someone who can bring experience, judgement and pragmatism — not just write code, but help us make good technical decisions.
Useful experience
Experience with any of the following would be useful, but is not essential:
- MongoDB or another NoSQL/document database.
- ASP.NET / ASP.NET Core.
- Amazon Web Services or another cloud platform.
- Docker or Kubernetes.
- Salesforce development.
- Native iOS or Android development.
- CI/CD pipelines.
- AI integration, automation, workflow tools or data processing.
- Working with AI APIs, language models or intelligent search.
- Secure development practices.
- Architecture, technical design or solution design.
- Working in a smaller team where developers have broad responsibility.
You do not need to tick every box. If you are a strong C#/.NET developer who enjoys building data-driven applications and working across different areas of a product, we would still like to hear from you.
About you
You are likely to be a good fit if you:
- Enjoy taking ownership rather than waiting to be told every step.
- Can analyse a problem before jumping into implementation.
- Care about clean, reliable and maintainable software.
- Can balance technical quality with commercial reality.
- Think about architecture, security, testing and long-term maintainability.
- Can explain technical decisions clearly to technical and non-technical people.
- Are willing to challenge proposed solutions when they are not right.
- Like improving systems, not just adding features.
- Are interested in data-driven applications, integrations and client systems.
- Are curious about AI and automation as ways to enhance real business software.
- Want to have genuine influence in a smaller, focused team.
This role is not suited to someone who simply wants to generate code and move on. It is suited to someone who wants to understand the problem, think through the design, use the right tools, and take responsibility for the quality of the final result.
What we offer
- Salary of £45,000–£65,000, depending on experience.
- 4-day working week on compressed hours.
- Remote-first working.
- Weekly in-person collaboration at our Derbyshire office.
- A senior role with real technical influence.
- Direct access to decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Varied, meaningful development work.
- The opportunity to build large data-driven applications for real client needs.
- Exposure to varied client systems, integrations, cloud services, mobile applications and AI-enabled features.
- Opportunity to develop skills in cloud, Salesforce, native mobile development and AI integration.
- A practical, supportive team environment.
- The opportunity to improve systems, processes and technical standards.
