The Recreation Assistant/Lifeguard at Rye Leisure Centre is responsible for supervising and assisting customers, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience, particularly in the swimming pool. The role involves enforcing safety procedures, maintaining cleanliness, and delivering excellent customer service. Employees are expected to contribute to the centre’s operational goals and uphold its community-focused values. The position requires strong communication skills, teamwork, and flexibility, with relevant qualifications such as the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard certification preferred. Full-time, part-time, and casual positions are available, with a focus on professionalism, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Job Purpose:
· To supervise and assist the leisure centre customers.
· To be responsible for the users of the swimming pool, ensuring a safe and enjoyable visit is had by all.
· To understand the business and budgetary performance of the centre.
· To be a proactive member of the leisure centre team.

Main duties:
· To supervise the customers in the swimming pool, and other areas of the leisure centre, as directed, ensuring their safety.
· To carry out pool supervision duties and all other duties in accordance with Normal Operating Procedures (NOPs) in a professional manner, and take action in accordance with Emergency Action Procedures (EAPs).
· To ensure the customer experience is one of safety, professionalism and welcoming at all times.
· To comply with all safe systems of work, as defined in the Normal Operating Procedures (NOPs). All plant and machinery is to be operated according to NOP’s.
· To maintain the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the leisure centre, prepare the facilities for customer use, and to keep them in a clean, hygienic and safe state at all times.
· To contribute to operating the centre in a professional and business orientated manner, in accordance with the CIO’s values and objectives, recognising the need to achieve all targets and other performance indicators set.
· To ensure that the highest level of customer service is being delivered at all times, by all team members, recognizing and communicating its importance and relevance to the success of the CIO.
· To ensure that customer comments and complaints are handled professionally, with issues being referred to the appropriate member of staff.
· To cover as appropriate and in accordance to training and experience, other areas of the centre, as directed by the duty manager or Centre Director.
General:
· To fully participate in the performance review process and personal development planning.
· Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and agreed with your line manager (occasionally training or meetings are organized outside normal working hours. The post holder will be expected to attend whenever reasonably practicable).
· To achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
· To contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which they work.
· To undertake any other duties at the request of the duty manager or Centre Director, which are commensurate with the role including, but not limited to, project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
