About the Role
We are looking for a skilled, reliable and customer-focused Butcher to join our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, cutting, trimming and presentation of a range of fresh meat, while maintaining excellent standards of food safety, hygiene, quality and customer service.
This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in their craft and enjoys working in a busy retail environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining product quality, developing displays and providing customers with knowledgeable and friendly service.
Key Responsibilities
- Cut, trim and prepare a range of fresh meat to the required specification.
- Prepare steaks, chops, joints, mince and other products accurately and consistently.
- Carry out boning, trimming and portioning as required.
- Prepare products for retail display and customer orders.
- Advise customers on different cuts, cooking methods and suitable products.
- Take and prepare customer orders accurately.
- Maintain attractive, well-stocked and correctly labelled displays.
- Ensure products meet the required quality and presentation standards.
- Minimise waste through effective cutting, trimming and stock management.
- Receive and check meat deliveries, ensuring products meet quality and quantity requirements.
- Store products correctly and maintain appropriate temperature controls.
- Monitor stock levels and product dates, following appropriate stock rotation procedures.
- Assist with ordering and stock management where required.
- Maintain knives, equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate records where required.
- Assist with opening and closing duties.
- Support and train junior members of the team where appropriate.
- Carry out other reasonable duties required for the smooth running of the butchery.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Previous professional butchery experience.
- Good understanding of safe knife handling and butchery practices.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safe food-handling procedures.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently in a retail butchery environment.
Desirable:
- Formal butchery qualification or relevant industry training.
- Experience in a retail butcher's shop.
- Experience serving customers and taking bespoke orders.
- Experience with stock control and ordering.
- Food Hygiene Level 2 or equivalent.
- Experience making pies and pastry.
Food Safety & Hygiene
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain consistently high standards of food hygiene and workplace cleanliness.
You will be responsible for following appropriate food safety procedures, including temperature control, stock rotation, cleaning and sanitisation, allergen awareness and safe handling of food.
Any required training or refresher training will be provided where appropriate.

Working Environment
This is a physical, hands-on role involving prolonged periods of standing, working in a chilled environment and regular handling and movement of products and equipment.
The successful candidate must be able to carry out the physical requirements of the role safely.
Pay: £450.00-£600.00 per week
