Full job description

Overview

Fossfield farm has been the home of York's only Real dairy Ice Cream, Yorvale, since 1989. Using traditional methods and the finest natural ingredients we produce dairy ice cream, real fruit sorbets, plant based ice cream and kefir from our family farm on the outskirts of York.

We are a small team of 20 and currently seeking an experienced and proactive technical professional to help contribute to the success of our business. The role will report to the General Manager and will be responsible for all technical and quality related duties.

Key activities

Take full ownership of the sites technical standard, ensuring food safety, legal, customer and BRCGS requirements are met
Lead the HACCP Team and maintain a well structured quality management system with clear priorities, goals and manage improvement plans
Lead the team in BRCGS and customer audits.
Monitor & review food defence and food fraud.
management of traceability systems
Supplier approval - maintain database and approve new suppliers of all materials
Maintain specifications for all raw materials and finished product
Control labelling, nutritional data, shelf life assessments and customer specific requirements
Maintain and update allergen management systems
Manage the microbiological sampling programme, ensuring all non-conformances are investigated to a resolution.
Conduct regular audits and inspections of manufacturing facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Lead investigations into non-conformances and quality issues and implement corrective actions swiftly.
Deliver training on food safety and quality practices, procedures, and safety protocols to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Prepare reports and relevant trend analysis data for management review meetings

About you

Minimum of 1 years experience in quality /technical role within the food industry
Experience of BRCGS standard, quality systems and retailer standards
Internal audit training
Must be a self starter with the ability to prioritise and organise workload and be comfortable working autonomously
Hands on leadership style with a passion for developing people and comfortable having a presence on the shop floor
Proven experience in quality assurance management within manufacturing or food production environments.
Strong knowledge of HACCP principles, food safety regulations, and industry best practices. Level 3 HACCP and food safety hygiene certification
Effective communication skills for training staff, reporting findings, and collaborating across departments.

Pay: £40,000.00 per year
