We are a well-established block management company providing property management services to residential developments. We are seeking a diligent and organised Accounts Assistant to join our finance team and support the day-to-day accounting functions of the business.
Role Overview
The Accounts Assistant will be responsible for managing the service charge accounts for their own portfolio of residential developments, ensuring the accurate processing of financial transactions, maintenance of client accounts, and delivery of service charge accounting services. The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple blocks while working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the accounts for a designated portfolio of residential blocks.
- Acting as the primary accounts contact for Property Managers, leaseholders, contractors, and clients within the portfolio.
- Processing supplier invoices and ensuring timely payments.
- Reconciling bank accounts and client accounts.
- Assisting with service charge accounting for managed properties.
- Preparing and issuing service charge demands.
- Processing receipts and allocating payments accurately.
- Monitoring arrears and assisting with credit control activities where required.
- Assisting with the preparation of annual service charge budgets.
- Supporting the production of year-end service charge accounts.
- Supporting month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
- Assisting with financial reporting as required.
- Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
- Responding to account-related queries from leaseholders, contractors, and clients.
- Supporting external accountants when required.
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures and relevant accounting regulations.
- Building effective working relationships with Property Managers and supporting the wider property management team.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in a similar accounting role.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage and take ownership of a portfolio of developments, prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Experience within the property management, block management, or real estate sector.
- Knowledge of service charge accounting.
- Familiarity with property management software such as Resident, Qube, or similar.
- Studying towards an accounting qualification, e.g. AAT qualification
