Job Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Raw Materials Examiner to support the safe, efficient receipt and handling of raw material deliveries into our scrap yard. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a strong awareness of health and safety, and is keen to develop a career within the steel industry.
Responsibilities
- Directing and accompanying the vehicle to appropriate stocking area (pens, compound or bulk storage area) taking into consideration all relevant factors to ensure the most efficient and economical use of the available storage space
- Supervising the unloading of all scrap deliveries and inspecting the material to ensure they meet the agreed specification.
- Quarantining all non-standard material in order to correctly assess and subsequently make a claim against the supplier, through the Raw Materials Purchasing department in order to recover the monies for the lower value material
- Assisting the Raw Materials Supervisor in planning the arrival of scrap materials to meet melting shop requirements taking into account storage availability and required stock levels.
- Ensuring an efficient turnaround of vehicles in order that the materials is delivered as quickly as possible to meet production requirements.
- Unloading of Flat bed lorries and containers
Person Specification
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to liaise with various personnel such as Production Operatives, Contractors and Delivery Drivers.
- Be able to demonstrate an awareness of Health & Safety legislation and working procedures.
- Be willing to work flexibly as an individual or as part of a team, to meet the operational demands of the business.
- Happy to spend time outdoors in all weather conditions
- Willing and wanting to learn about the Steel industry
