Full job description

Job Title: Dispenser - applicants MUST BE A QUALIFIED DISPENSER

Place of work: Henfield Medical Centre, Deer Park, Henfield, West Sussex

Qualification: NVQ2 in dispensing or equivalent

Hours: Zero Hours - holilday cover - could be between 8 - 24 hrs a week

Details

Henfield Medical Centre is a GP practice in Henfield, West Sussex, with patient list of approximately 10,200. GP partnership of 3 doctors, 4 salaried GP and trainee Registrars. The in-house Dispensary is currently staffed by 4 part time dispensers who work under the supervision of the Dispensary Manager. The Dispensary is open every weekday from 0900-1800 and the Dispensary staff are in attendance from 0830 to 1830. Experience in this field is essential.

Reporting

This post holder reports to the Dispensary and Medicines Manager in the first instance.

Key Responsibilities

Dispensary:

· Dispense medicines and drugs as requested by the doctors

· Maintain stock levels

· Dealing with patient queries face to face and over the telephone

· Issuing prescriptions under the direction of the doctors

· Adding medication to medical records under the supervision of doctors

· Assisting with the accounting and reconciliation of prescriptions monthly

· Some flexibility with advance notice to cover colleague’s absence as required

Key Activities and accountabilities

1. To dispense medicines and drugs under the direction of the GP’s

2. Using the clinical computer system to carry out tasks and duties

3. Dealing with patient queries by telephone and in person

4. Hand out completed orders to patients and take payments.

5. Ordering from wholesaler to maintain adequate stock levels.

6. Housekeeping: regular checking all stock in date etc.

7. To interact with other members of staff /departments as part of a close primary care team to help ensure the smooth running of a busy Medical Centre

8. To be accountable for confidentiality in all areas of the work

9. To undergo appropriate training to qualify for the role and to update and maintain skills as required
