Main Objectives
A self-motivated procurement professional responsible for managing strategic suppliers and commodity groups to ensure continuity of supply, cost competitiveness, quality performance and supplier development within a dynamic electronics manufacturing environment.
Act as the primary purchasing contact for assigned commodities, working closely with Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality and Finance to ensure materials are available to support production and customer demand.
Drive continuous improvement through supplier relationship management, cost reduction initiatives, risk mitigation and process improvement whilst maintaining the highest levels of supplier performance.
Support change management activities including Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), new product introduction (NPI) and supplier transitions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with assigned suppliers to ensure reliable, cost-effective supply of goods and services.
Manage the end-to-end procurement process for allocated commodities including quotation, negotiation, PO/ contract placement, order management and supplier performance.
Lead commercial negotiations covering pricing, lead times, payment terms, contractual agreements and long-term supply arrangements.
Drive supplier performance through regular business reviews, KPI’s, corrective actions and continuous improvement activities.
Work collaboratively with Planning to ensure MRP demand is converted into an effective supply plan whilst managing shortages and delivery risks.
Evaluate supplier quotations to achieve the optimum balance of cost, quality, delivery and technical capability.
Lead value engineering (VAVE) and cost reduction initiatives across assigned commodities.
Identify and manage supply chain risks including capacity constraints, sole source suppliers, lifecycle issues and geopolitical risks.
Manage supplier related Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), ensuring implementation plans minimise disruption to production.
Maintain accurate purchasing data including pricing, lead times, supplier information and sourcing strategies within the ERP system.
Monitor supplier delivery performance, inventory levels and forecast requirements to support business objectives.
Ensure compliance with company purchasing procedures, ISO9001, ISO14001 and Health and Safety requirements.
Deputise for the Purchasing Manager where required.
Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of manufacturing systems including ERP/MRP.
Excellent Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
Proven experience purchasing electronic components, PCBAs and electro-mechanical productions within a manufacturing environment.
Strong commercial awareness with excellent negotiation skills.
Experience developing long-term supplier relationships.
Proven experience delivering cost reduction and supplier improvement projects.
Understanding of supplier quality processes and engineering change management.
Knowledge of inventory management principles and supply chain planning.
Ability to analyse data and make commercially sound decisions.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
CIPS qualifications (Level 4 or above) desirable.
Experience within electronics manufacturing preferred.
