We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Engineer Technician to join our dynamic engineering team in Cardiff. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking for development to degree level in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (BEng) who has engineering knowledge and some practical electronics engineering work experience.
It would suit an ambitious engineer, who wants a professional career in electronics engineering, with a min of 5 years’ experience (with either A-levels or a BTEC or HNC in Engineering) and who would like the opportunity to be supported to reach their full career potential and study at university part-time day release one day a week to achieve a fully funded Degree (worth £30,000), whilst also earning a salary and developing their work skills in systems and mechanical engineering for the remainder of the week within a collaborative environment as an Undergraduate Degree Apprentice.
The role involves supporting various engineering projects, gaining practical experience in analysis, electronics and system optimisation, and contributing to innovative product development initiatives.
Duties
- Participate in Continuous Improvement training, learning to apply Lean tools such as root cause analysis and 5S to help improve quality and performance and support a continuous improvement culture through offering suggestions, validating and implementing the improvements.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on system engineering tasks, including system integration and optimisation.
- Aid in the realisation of electrical engineering projects by understanding schematics and working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Demonstrate practical electronics prototype, build and electronics test skills (able to assemble PCBs)
- Demonstrate good fault finding, electronics test and PCB repair ability (soldering, crimping, wiring, etc)
- Good communication skills, practical, flexible attitude, and ability to take on a variety of tasks.
- Able to read electronics circuit diagrams.
- Maintain and help develop production data dashboards.
- Duties may vary depending on the needs of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Min of 2 A-levels including Maths or a BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering or HNC/HND and relevant electronics engineering career experience
- Min of 5 GCSEs grade A to C
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong practical electronics prototype, build and electronics test skills (able to assemble PCBs)
- Good fault-finding skills, ideally with electronics test and PCB repair experience (soldering, crimping, wiring, etc)
- Good communication skills, practical, flexible attitude, and ability to take on a variety of tasks.
- Able to read electronics circuit diagrams.
- Good IT skills with ability to learn and develop as new IT systems are introduced as data analytics evolves.
- Good Written and Verbal communications skills
- Awareness of Health and Safety Requirements
- Able to read and understand electronic schematics.
- Soldering skills for both through hole and surface mount components
