Full job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and experienced Deputy Room Leader to join our friendly nursery team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about early years education and is ready to support the Room Leader in creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive.

The Role

As a Deputy Room Leader, you will support the Room Leader in the day-to-day running of the room, ensuring high-quality care, learning and development opportunities are provided for all children. You will help lead the team, promote excellent practice and ensure all safeguarding and welfare requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the Room Leader in the daily management and organisation of the room.
Provide high-quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Build strong, positive relationships with children, parents and carers.
Support, guide and motivate practitioners within the room.
Act as a key person and maintain accurate observations, assessments and learning journeys.
Plan and deliver engaging activities that support children’s individual development.
Ensure safeguarding, health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
Help maintain a clean, safe and stimulating learning environment.
Assist with staff inductions and support the development of team members.
Step into the Room Leader role during periods of absence.
Promote inclusion, equality and positive behaviour management.

Essential Requirements:

Level 3 qualification in Early Years Childcare (or above).
Previous experience working within a nursery or early years setting.
Good knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding procedures.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A positive, reliable and professional approach.

Desirable:

Previous leadership or senior practitioner experience.
Paediatric First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
