JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Key Person

Hours: 7.30am-3.15pm Term Time Only Monday-Friday 37.50hrs a week

Role: To work as part of the team to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage and provide safe, high quality and stimulating care for all children until their transition to Reception

Line Manager: Manager/Deputy

Work in partnership with: Staff, fathers/mothers/carers & agency professionals

Main Responsibilities:

To work within the team to ensure a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment is created where children are able to enjoy themselves, grow in confidence and fulfil their potential
To act as a Key Person to a small group of children, liaising closely with fathers/mothers/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met
To support children's learning, development and welfare by working under the four principles of the EYFS (A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning & Development)
To observe the children at play recording brief and precise notes so that their interests, obsessions and passions can be analysed in order to plan for future learning opportunities
To respond to learning opportunities and work with the team to put together flexible short term plans with clear, but limited, set of learning intentions
To reflect daily on the provision provided to ensure children's enthusiasms and interests are extended and successful activities revisited
To promote positive attitudes to diversity and difference within all children by making sure that all children and families feel included and that all children and adults are treated as individuals and listened to and respected
To safeguard and promote the welfare of children attending Busy Lizzies at Simon Balle - knowledge of Safeguarding Children is mandatory for all staff. Basic awareness training will be provided.
To work in partnership with fathers/mothers/carers and professionals from other agencies, as necessary

· To help promote a teamwork environment in conjunction with other staff, volunteers and students

To understand your responsibilities within the setting's policies & procedures and work to them
To attend staff meetings as deemed necessary by the Manager/Deputy
To attend training courses and network meetings as deemed necessary by the Manager/Deputy (please note staff do not suffer financially for any training they are required to undertake)
To support fundraising events as required and encourage father/mother/carer involvement
To be responsible for keeping your Staff Handbook up-to-date
To carry out any other duties associated with the role of Key Person, as may be reasonably required by the Manager/Deputy, some of which may need to take place outside session times

Person Specification

· Experience of working in a Preschool, Nursery or early years setting

· QCF Level 3 in Children and Young Person’s Workforce or equivalent, or working towards one

· Understand of the principles of child development and learning processes

· Be suitable, both mentally and physically, to care for children

· Ability to communicate and maintain friendly relationships with children, fathers/mothers/carers and staff

· Ability to work on own initiative and cope with a busy setting, seeking guidance when necessary

· Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding roles and responsibilities and your own position within these

· Ability to work in a professional manner at all times
