Assistant Accountant
Chester / Hybrid following 3 month probation in office

We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant to join us who can demonstrate the bellow:
- AAT Level 3 qualification is desirable; however, candidates qualified by experience will also be considered
- Prior experience in industry at this level and within this role.
- Strong Excel skills and good general system proficiency
- Experience of mentorship and being a line manager for a team
- Good technical knowledge and an understanding of what “good” looks like within this role.
What you’ll be doing
Supporting the Finance Manager by acting as a key point of contact within the finance function and providing leadership across the team. Bridging the gap between senior and junior team members by mentoring, developing, and motivating employees, promoting a positive culture and alignment with departmental goals to improve overall team performance. Maintaining effective financial controls within the department, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently, deadlines are met, and departmental objectives are achieved. Contributing to the accurate and timely production of financial information, maintaining high-quality ledger management and proactively resolving issues to improve transparency and visibility of financial data for senior stakeholders. In addition:
- Assisting in the Preparation of monthly management accounts, working with the FM to complete MGT Accts up to the point of review by FM within team deadlines
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations and posting of journals
- Month-end processes – Including Intercompany recharges, Disposals, and purchases
- Supplier reconciliations and queries
- VAT return preparation and checks assisting in accurate VAT coding and compliance
- Preparing and processing payment runs and reporting
- Reviewing and analysing credit control activities weekly and daily with the team, guiding focus and feedback to seniors
- Day to day operational tasks, email inbox management and delegation of tasks to the team. Responsible for ensuring work is completed and organising the team
- Delegating tasks and managing workload across sales and purchase ledger clerks
- Handling internal and external queries. Assisting with the audit. Assisting with queries from seniors
- AP/AR control and Bank, Accounts Receivable and Payable Reconciliation. Keeping Ledgers clean and ensuring good management of all nominals and ledgers
- GL control ensuring accuracy of postings and data
- Assisting with Cash flow management and ensuring accurate data entry into cash flow models
