About the Company
We are a large national shipyard and engineering group operating within a fast-paced and growing environment. Our Head Office in North Cornwall supports the wider group across multiple businesses and operational locations.
We are now looking for a Qualified Accountant to support the day-to-day finance function, helping ensure accurate bookkeeping, payroll administration, supplier payments, and financial record management across the group.
Role Overview
This is a varied and hands-on finance role combining accounting, payroll support, record keeping through to managing day to day finances of the Padstow operation and statutory accounts for both entities.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, external accountants, and the wider administration team to ensure financial processes are managed accurately, efficiently, and professionally.
The role is suited to someone organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working within a busy operational business environment and able to deal with auditors.
Key Responsibilities for both the HO and Padstow entities:
General Accounting
- Maintain accurate financial records using accounting software
- Process purchase invoices, supplier payments, and expense claims
- Reconcile company accounts, bank transactions, and company cards
- Support monthly finance administration and reporting activities
- Assist with journals, accruals, and prepayments where required
- Support cash flow monitoring and financial tracking
- Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors as required
Payroll & Finance Administration
- Support payroll administration for group head office employees
- Coordinate payroll information and maintain accurate employee records
- Assist with PAYE, pensions, and payroll-related administration
- Manage head office bill payments including utilities, services, and office-related costs
- Monitor recurring payments and supplier accounts
- Track staff expenses and ensure receipts and supporting documentation are maintained
Financial support and audit requirements
- Work closely with the Group Administrator and leadership team to support smooth day-to-day business operations
- Support document preparation and lead the preparation for statutory accounts
- Contribute to improving finance processes and administrative efficiency
About You
Experience
- Experience processing invoices, reconciliations, payments, and payroll administration right up to the preparation of statutory accounts for a small organisation
- Experience using accounting software such as Sage or Business Central
- Previous experience within an office-based finance environment
Qualifications
- Qualified (ACCA or CIMA, or equivalent)
Skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy but also can see the bigger financial picture
- Experience with statutory account preparation and dealing with auditors
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
