Job Title:
Health & Safety Officer

This is a full-time position, Monday–Friday 14.50 – 23.00, 39 hours per week.

Location:
On-Site, Rittal- CSM Ltd, Plymouth.

Salary:
£35,000.00 - 40,000.00 dependant on experience and qualifications plus bonus and 25% shift premium

Contract Type:
Permanent, Full-time

The Opportunity

We are looking for a proactive and committed Health & Safety Officer to join our team in Plymouth. This is a key role responsible for maintaining and developing our Health & Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with legislation, and driving a culture of continuous improvement and “zero harm” across the business.

Working closely with stakeholders at all levels, you will play a vital part in embedding best practice and supporting safe, compliant operations across all departments.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management System
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company standards
Identify, develop, and implement H&S improvements across the organisation
Support and manage risk assessments and safety documentation
Deliver H&S training and awareness programmes to employees
Lead audits and inspections, working with safety representatives and stakeholders
Support incident, accident, near miss, and hazard investigations, ensuring effective follow-up actions
Coordinate and guide EHS representatives and on-site safety activities
Liaise with external bodies, contractors, and regulatory authorities
Promote a strong, positive safety culture and lead by example

Qualifications & Experience

Experience within a Health & Safety role, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, compliance, and management systems
Experience with risk assessments, audits, and continuous improvement
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
A proactive, organised, and solution-focused approach
Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
IOSH / NEBOSH qualification is desirable
Experience working with ISO 45001 systems would be advantageous
Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organisational levels
Ability to work to deadlines using own initiative
Effective teamwork and contribution within a management structure
Proactive, flexible, and improvement‑focused mindset
Persuasive, resilient and tenacious in achieving environmental and sustainability targets
Proficient in MS Office applications
Demonstrates behaviours aligned with company values
