Full job description

College Way Surgery: Medical Secretary

College Way Surgery is looking to recruit a medical secretary to join our friendly practice team for 25-37 hours per week. Some Primary Care experience and medical terminology preferred but not essential as training will be given to the right candidate. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to audio type.

The surgery uses EMIS web clinical system and Lexacom Digital Dictation.

Applicants should have GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above.

Primary Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the medical secretary. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Typing letters, reports and associated documentation as required, using Lexacom Digital Dictation software
Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently
Manage all enquires in an effective manner
Maintain an accurate referrals database
Process calling letters as requested
Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient’s healthcare records
Input data into the patient’s healthcare records as necessary
Process referrals using the electronic referral system (ERS)
Process requests for information i.e. SAR, insurance / solicitor’s letters and DVLA forms
Read code data on EMIS Web
Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately
Manage all administrative queries as necessary
Carry out system searches as requested
Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested
To be mindful of patient welfare and report any safeguarding concerns to your line manager or the Practice Safeguarding Lead.

Pay: £12.71-£13.22 per hour
