The role
A vacancy has become available for a Team Leader to join the waste disposal team at the waste transfer station and be part of our journey on the road to greatness.
We are looking for someone who can be an essential part of the team who will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance tasks of the transfer station and the day-to-day management of tasks of the bailing hall team, in conjunction with the other Team Leaders.
Please note, a HGV license is mandatory to be considered for this role.
You
Will be an integral part of ‘Team ‘SWISCo’ by ensuring the recycling and waste collected from across Torbay is managed effectively and prepared for onward transport. You and the team will be responsible for keeping the transfer station and its assets are well maintained.
The team you work within will be responsible to keeping the transfer station clean and tidy, working to schedules whilst also being able to respond to the operational needs of a busy environment.
Key Duties:
- Operating plant and machinery, such as forklifts, loading shovel and telehandlers to load and unload recycling and waste
- Keeping the transfer station, equipment and plant clean and tidy
- Undertaking day to day maintenance tasks across the site including repairs, grounds maintenance, carpentry and decorating.
- Cleaning vehicles, to ensure they are free of dirt and waste materials.

Skills and Effectiveness
- Effective people management and leadership skills
- Effective organisational skills as well as being able to apply effective attention to detail.
- Able to work on own initiative proactively and with minimum direction.
Knowledge
- Effective knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
- Knowledge and understanding of effective leadership qualities and practices.
Experience
- Previous supervisory and leadership experience.
- Experience of working in a time critical environment.
Qualifications
- HGV Class 2 Licence
- Plant and/or machinery operator licence such as loading shovel and telehandler
