About Us

The Forest School is a successful, inclusive and forward-thinking 11–16 comprehensive school, committed to high standards and ensuring every student is supported to succeed.

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Year to join our pastoral team. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a high-impact leadership role within a supportive and well-established school.

Job Details

Salary: £32,597.00 - £35,412.00 pa pro rata

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Term time only plus 3 weeks to be worked during the school holidays

Location: Horsham, West Sussex

Interviews: Monday 13th July 2026

What You Need to Succeed

As a Head of Year, you will lead a year group of approximately 230 students and a team of tutors, playing a central role in shaping the culture, outcomes and experience of students.

You will:

Lead on behaviour, attendance, safeguarding and student wellbeing
Work closely with senior leaders, staff, parents and external agencies
Support and challenge students to meet high expectations
Drive improvements in engagement, conduct and attendance
Lead and develop a team of tutors
Celebrate student success and promote a positive year group ethos

This is a visible and rewarding role, suited to someone who is proactive, resilient and committed to making a difference.

We are looking for someone who:

Enjoys working with young people and building strong relationships
Has high expectations and a commitment to student success
Can manage challenge with confidence and professionalism
Is well organised and able to prioritise effectively
Is keen to develop their pastoral or leadership experience
