Role: Trainee Lecturer – English (Maternity Cover)

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable

Salary/Benefits: Between £26,651 and £31,982 (pro rata) per annum DOE and Qualifications, 35 days annual leave plus Bank holidays (pro rata), Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 18.5hrs per week/52 Weeks

Contract Type: Part-Time, Permanent

About the role:

We are currently seeking Trainee Lecturer to join English and Maths Department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Trainee Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

Teaching & Delivery - Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality courses, ensuring inclusive, engaging learning that meets awarding body standards and individual student needs.
Student Support & Progress - Guide, mentor, and monitor students through tutorials, assessment, and feedback to help them achieve success and reach their full potential.
Assessment & Quality Assurance - Design and assess work, track performance, maintain records, and ensure compliance with quality standards, verification, and moderation processes.
Curriculum Development & Engagement - Contribute to innovative teaching, course development, employer links, and wider activities such as marketing events, open days, and student recruitment.
Professional & Organisational Responsibilities - Uphold college values, safeguarding, and student experience, complete administrative duties, collaborate with colleagues, and support departmental and college-wide initiatives.

About you:

Qualifications & Professional Credentials Degree in relevant Subject area, GCSE English and Maths (Grade A-C), and willingness to achieve PGCE/Cert Ed.
Teaching & Learning Excellence -Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality learning experiences, support student progress, and contribute to curriculum development across FE levels. Skilled in tutoring, applying innovative teaching methods, and using data and IT systems to improve outcomes.
Core Skills & Competencies - Highly effective communicator with strong organisational skills, capable of meeting deadlines, achieving targets, and working independently or collaboratively. Confident in IT (Microsoft Office, Teams) and committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
Personal Attributes & Professional Conduct - Detail-oriented, adaptable, and resilient under pressure. Builds positive relationships, handles sensitive information confidentially, and demonstrates leadership while aligning with organisational values such as equality, safeguarding, and professionalism.
Additional Requirements & Compliance - Flexible and mobile (travel across campuses, adaptable hours), with responsibility for safeguarding learners and maintaining professional boundaries. Holds relevant training (e.g. First Aid, safeguarding, EDI, ITQ) and meets health & safety expectations, including risk assessment awareness.
