The Heathrow Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is one of the UK’s most exciting apprenticeship programmes. The scheme provides career changing opportunities for residents close to the airport.
The broad purpose of this occupation is to understand a client's requirements as provided in design specification and then build and test high-quality code solutions to deliver the best outcome. Software development technicians are the supportive entry-level team members helping to create computer programs. Some assist in developing the applications that allow people to do specific tasks on a computer or another device.
Duties typically include:
- Follow clearly defined requirements to deliver software development activities and products
- The using various platforms such as HTML, Python, and JavaScript
- Report progress against metrics on software development activities accurately throughout the stages of the software development lifecycle
- Work within operational requirements such as health and safety, budgets, brands and normal business protocols
- Communicate outcomes from development activities to team members and other stakeholders, both internal and external
- Identify and implement security features of a proposed design
- Write logical and maintainable software solutions in line with given specifications to meet the design requirements and organisational coding standards
- Apply security principles and practices to the software development tasks assigned
Office-Based Role - This role involves prolonged periods of desk-based work, computer use, and telephone communication within an office environment. K10 Apprenticeships will consider reasonable adjustments where possible to support individuals in carrying out the essential duties of the role.

Typical Working Week
40 hours p/w with start time between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

Minimum Requirements
English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 / C or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.
Desired Requirements
An individual passionate about using software and IT systems and showing innovation when it comes to problem-solving and reporting data to senior members of the team. Should be comfortable in working with different IT/coding programmes and reporting sensitive and accurate data to clients/stakeholders.
Key Training/College Information
K10 will enrol you onto the Level 3 Software Development Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider
The apprenticeship duration is 18 months

To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:
- Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status
- Not enrolled on any other courses
- 18+ due to site H&S rules
