Job Role - Senior Health and Safety Support Manager
Grade: ML2/SB1
Salary: £60,000
Role Type: Permanent

Location: York / Leeds / Manchester
Hours: 37 per week

At Northern, safety is at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for an experienced Senior Health & Safety Support Manager to lead the tactical delivery of Health & Safety across our Engineering function, ensuring a consistent, risk-based approach that supports safe and reliable railway operations.

Working closely with the Health & Safety Business Partner, you'll coordinate a team of Health & Safety Support Managers, oversee assurance activities, drive continuous improvement and ensure our Safety Management System is effectively embedded across Engineering.

What you'll do

Lead and coordinate Health & Safety delivery across Engineering.
Support the implementation of Health & Safety strategy and continuous improvement plans.
Oversee audit programmes, investigations and the effective closure of corrective actions.
Coach and support Health & Safety Support Managers to deliver a consistent, high-quality service.
Analyse performance data to identify trends, manage risk and improve safety outcomes.
Build strong relationships with Engineering leaders and key stakeholders across the business.
Deputise for the Health & Safety Business Partner when required.

About you

You'll be an experienced Health & Safety professional with strong leadership and influencing skills, ideally gained within rail or another heavy industrial environment.

You'll have:

NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
Professional membership of IOSH (CertIOSH or above) or IIRSM (MIIRSM or above).
Significant experience managing Health & Safety within rail or heavy industry.
Excellent knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and Safety Management Systems.
The ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and deliver meaningful improvements.

ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, LEEA Foundation Certificate and ISEP Foundation Certificate are desirable.
