Junior Analyst
Role Purpose: The Satellite Applications Catapult (the Catapult) works with and helps to grow businesses of all sizes across the UK Space Sector. We have an awesome opportunity for a dynamic team player to join the Ecosystem Insights Team. The Junior Analyst is responsible for supporting the development of robust research and analysis tailored to user needs to support evidence-based decision making. If you can assist on delivering data-led tools to support the ecosystem and to provide strategic insights, then this is the role for you. Please note that this role is Harwell based with up to 2/3 days working from home. On occasion, we expect our team members to travel for face-to-face meetings and events across the UK as required.
The Junior Analyst supports teams by collecting, analysing, and interpreting data to uncover valuable insights that support decision-making. They work closely with different teams to understand data requirements and offer analytical support for decision-making. By exploring data, they identify patterns and trends, and present their findings through clear visualisations and reports.
By leveraging their analytical expertise, the Junior Analyst supports the translation of complex data insights into actionable recommendations. Their contributions enable the identification of new opportunities for insights, data optimisation, and process efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
The postholder would:
Deliver a comprehensive and accurate database which drives team activities and tools; own processes for one or more of our industrial, academic, or infrastructure databases which includes:
Effective Data Management:
Adding, maintaining, and classifying data; overseeing quality assurance and data validation; organising and storing data;
Support data quality assurance by identifying errors, inconsistencies, duplicates and gaps;
Implementing processes needed to map and monitor UK Space Sector growth accurately.
Data Modelling & Analysis:
Undertake structured analysis of quantitative and qualitative data using agreed methods;
Support market trends research, survey analysis, and ecosystem mapping activity;
Identify initial patterns, strengths, gaps and opportunity areas in the UK space ecosystems. Support the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, spreadsheets and visual tools.
Support the development of reports and thought leadership on the Space Sector driven by insights from the ecosystem and policy landscape with statistical, economic, and data modelling techniques and tools.
Respond to defined insight and data requests from Mission Leads, Mission Managers, Business Development, International and other internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders as required.
Keep up to date with relevant tools, techniques and data practices.
Support process improvements in data collection, validation, classification and reporting.
Provide training and support to team members and stakeholders on data analysis tools, methodologies, and best practices.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
Eligible for SC level security clearance
Research experience with an inquisitive mindset.
An ability to analyse large volumes of quantitative and qualitative data to create tailored reports.
Ability to clean, organise and interpret datasets using structured methods.
Good attention to detail and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in data.
Ability to work accurately and to deadlines.
Able to think independently to complete a given task.
Experience producing dashboards, reports, data summaries or visualisations.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, tailoring your approach according to audience needs.
Highly numerate, with a structured and methodical approach to problem solving and analysis.
Excellent computer literacy with knowledge of word processing tools and spreadsheets (MS Office Word, Excel, etc.)
Practical working experience with databases, such as Dynamics, and database management tools
Desirable:
Experience in business administration, economics, accounting, data analysis, market research or a related field.
Experience using Microsoft Dynamics, Power BI, survey tools, or similar platforms.
Comfortable developing accurate content for internal or external audiences.
Understanding of innovation, regional development, economic growth, supply chains or the UK space sector.
