Job Title: Engineering Manager

Location: Envar Cambridge, Heathtops, The Heath, Woodhurst, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, PE28 3BS

Salary: Competitive

Job Type: Permanent, Full time

Hours: 47.5 Hours Per Week, 7am â€“ 5pm

About Us:

Envar is a producer and supplier of high-quality soil improver, woodland garden mulch, wood chip and biomass. We operate green waste composting sites across England with sites in Surrey, Northamptonshire, West London, Essex, Kent and Suffolk as well as our flagship site in Cambridgeshire where we also process food waste. In addition to composting Envar also recycle coffee grounds.

About the role:

Envar are looking for an Engineering Manager who will be responsible for leading the engineering and maintenance function across the facility, ensuring all plant, machinery, vehicles and fixed assets operate safely, reliably and efficiently. The role will drive engineering excellence, asset reliability, preventative maintenance programmes and capital improvement projects to maximise operational performance and minimise downtime.

The Engineering Manager will work closely with Site Managers and Operational Leaders to ensure engineering activities support business objectives, production targets and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities:

Â· Lead and develop the engineering team across the facility.

Â· Establish clear engineering standards, procedures and performance expectations.

Â· Build a proactive maintenance culture focused on reliability and continuous improvement.

Â· Provide coaching, mentoring and technical support to engineering personnel.

Â· Ensure preventative maintenance programmes are planned, executed and continuously improved.

Â· Maintain an accurate asset register and lifecycle management programme.

Â· Monitor plant performance and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.

Â· Manage all planned, preventative and reactive maintenance activities.

Â· Minimise equipment downtime through effective maintenance scheduling.

Â· Ensure maintenance records are completed and maintained accurately.

Â· Analyse breakdown trends and drive root cause investigations.

Â· Ensure all engineering activities comply with health and safety legislation and company procedures.

Â· Support safe systems of work including permits, lockout/tagout procedures and contractor management.

Â· Conduct engineering risk assessments and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Â· Support compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.

Â· Manage engineering improvement and capital investment projects.

Â· Develop business cases and specifications for new equipment and infrastructure.

Â· Oversee installation, commissioning and handover of new assets.

Â· Deliver projects on time and within budget.

Â· Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability and productivity.

Â· Implement engineering KPIs and performance reporting.

Â· Utilise data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.

Â· Promote innovation and best practice across all sites.

Â· Manage external service providers and engineering contractors.

Â· Ensure contractor compliance with company policies and site procedures.

Â· Monitor contractor performance against agreed standards.

About you:

Essentials:

Â· Proven experience in engineering management within waste management, recycling, processing, manufacturing, aggregates, quarrying or heavy industry.

Â· Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.

Â· Experience managing maintenance teams and contractors.

Â· Experience implementing preventative maintenance programmes.

Â· Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Â· Full UK driving licence.

Â· Strong leadership presence.

Â· Commercially aware and results driven.

Â· Practical problem solver.

Â· Organised and methodical.

Â· Excellent stakeholder management skills.

Â· Committed to driving safety, reliability and operational excellence.

Desirable:

Â· Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering.

Â· Engineering management qualification.

Â· IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.

Â· Experience with CMMS maintenance management systems.

Â· Knowledge of mobile plant including loading shovels, excavators, telehandlers, shredders, screens, trommels and conveyors.
