York City Football Club Foundation was established nineteen years ago and became an independent registered charity in 2014. YCFC Foundation works across York and the wider North Yorkshire area to offer an inclusive and diverse range of sports participation, grassroots development, social inclusion, community cohesion, health and wellbeing, women and girls, and disability opportunities, benefiting thousands of people from age 2 to 94 each week.
The successful applicant will be capable of representing all Foundation programmes across all formats of media.
YCFCF is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual who has a real interest in making a difference, engaging and inspiring participants from young to old, and promoting the Foundation and it's programmes, with quality content through a planned communications approach. This role is best suited to someone wanting to make a real difference using the power of sport and being instrumental in spreading the word through all aspects of media.
The candidate must have social media and marketing training, and ideally experience as a volunteer or in a paid capacity. They should have an understanding of relevant software for editing video, Canva, Capcut, Photoshop, etc., as well as experience using social media platforms and scheduling.
In addition, they should understand the importance of monitoring and evaluating projects, the needs of funders, and how media can be a tool in evidence capturing. They must also have a passion for community engagement through the vehicle of a a sporting charity.
The post holder will be required to have or be prepared to apply for an Enhanced DBS Check, hold a relevant driving licence, and have their own transport.
They will be a good communicator, both verbally and in writing, well-organised, and understand the need to plan a communications schedule. The ideal candidate will be reliable, with a desire to build relationships with our fanbase and community and grow our engagement and reach.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The post holder will be responsible and accountable for media, marketing and administration across all areas of the Foundation as directed including:
Developing and delivering a Foundation Communications plan, considering national campaigns, local initiatives, al aspects of media -press, digital, e-communications etc.
Creating a Foundation Marketing plan to tie in with strategic direction of the Foundation.
Evaluating and creating regular reports on the effectiveness of digital marketing activities.
Preparing email marketing campaigns for customers, prospective customers and other stakeholders.
Promoting the work of the Charity and ensuring positive media is achieved through internal and external mediums – locally, regionally and nationally where applicable.

1. Qualifications
Essential
Relevant media or marketing qualifications
Full UK Driving Licence
Car owner and willingness to use for work.
Desirable
A degree related to the role, i.e Sport or Media.
2. Experience
Essential
Experience of using social media platforms as well as good writing skills.
Good IT skills including working knowledge of the following: Microsoft Office, email & social media related software
Good communication skills with the ability to deal with people at all levels.
Willingness to work across the various project teams offering excellent customer service skills – working days, evenings and weekends to suit the workload.
Creative approach to reaching audiences, with the ability to recommend modern and innovative solutions.
Ability to work collaboratively across all areas of the Foundation to the professional level required by the charity and its stakeholders
Enthusiastic attitude to work
Good organisational skills.
Able to follow instruction and work on own initiative, as well as part of a wider team.
Experience with relevant graphics/video software such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
Ability to devise and create exciting and engaging content.
Desirable
Proficiency with editing software.

Initial fixed term contract September 2026- August 2027, 37 hours per week across maximum 6 days.

2. Write a press release for the expansion of the Football Without Limits/Disability Programme based on the information on the City Comets graphic on our socials
3. Present three suggestions for increasing engagement with the Foundation’s digital media accounts
4. Present a digital media communications daily plan/schedule for a two week long campaign across all Foundation channels, developing a theme around Mental Health and Wellbeing for all ages within the community, as part of the EFL Together Against Suicide campaign for October 2026.
