1. JOB SUMMARY
The HVAC Fabrication Team Leader is responsible for the leadership, performance, and technical delivery of all mechanical and structural fabrication operations in the workshop. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, this role ensures fabricated components are delivered safely, accurately, on time, to specification, and within budget.
The primary function of the HVAC Fabrication Team Leader is to provide leadership, workforce organisation, and competency development for the fabrication team, providing technical guidance, and coordination with Electrical and Refrigeration disciplines to ensure coordinated production schedules, resource allocation and maintain regulatory compliance. The position also works closely with engineers and the Ex-Responsible Person.
Secondary functions include maintenance of the Company’s infrastructure.
The HVAC Fabrication Team Leader is willing to undertake further education and training to develop and further their competency levels.
Occasionally, it may be necessary to carry out some of their duties at client sites within the UK, offshore and internationally.
2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
All activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures and standards.
2.1. Technical & Operational Leadership
Lead the fabrication team in producing high-quality mechanical and structural components.
Provide guidance on welding, cutting, assembly, and finishing processes.
Understanding of requirements for equipment working in explosive atmospheres.
Achieve a reliable and acceptable standard of planning and completion of documentation at the first attempt
Ensure all work meets project specifications, drawings, and regulatory standards.
Advise Project Manager / Engineers on most suitable, quickest and cost effective manufacturing methods.
Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure seamless workflow across all manufacturing areas.
2.2. Resource & Workforce Management
Setting priorities for team members in accordance with project / discipline requirements.
Allocate fabrication resources effectively across projects.
Manage training, skills development, and competency assessments.
Support recruitment, workforce planning, and succession strategies.
Promote a safe, engaged, and high-performing team culture.
Ensure good levels of housekeeping are maintained and materials / equipment are correctly stored.
Assist in the training and instruction of apprentices and other work colleagues
2.3. Production Planning & Delivery
Develop fabrication schedules in alignment with overall production plans.
Monitor progress, address delays, and implement corrective actions.
Maintain accurate records of hours, resources, and performance metrics.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the fabrication discipline.
2.4. Quality & Compliance
Ensure all electrical manufacturing adheres to ISO 9001, ATEX, IEC 80079-34, and IECEx standards.
Control non-conforming work and implement corrective measures.
Maintain documented information in line with Quality Management System requirements.
2.5. Other Duties
General duties as delegated within the overall range of the post.
2.6. Health & Safety
To comply with employee duties and responsibilities under health and safety legislation and comply with Company rules as detailed in various health and safety policies and procedures.
Ensure safe fabrication practices, correct PPE usage, and adherence to risk assessments.
Promote awareness of fabrication hazards (welding, lifting, machinery).
Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
Perform task based risk assessment and instruct others in the findings.
2.7. Driving
This role may require driving on Company business.
3. JOB CONTEXT & KEY CHALLENGES
The role leads and forms part of a team working in the Production HVAC Fabrication department reporting to the Manufacturing Manager. The role of HVAC Fabrication Team Leader forms first level of management, being responsible for a team of employees and other management functions.
The role also requires practical applications, carrying out a variety of complex tasks, including interpretation of mechanical drawings in line with regulatory and quality standards and high levels of dexterity in handling materials.
Key contacts are within the HVAC Fabrication, projects engineering and manufacturing departments up to Manufacturing Manager and Projects Manager level. Contacts may also include suppliers and external clients.
