About the role:
The Assistant Warehouse Manager supports the Warehouse Manager in delivering exceptional service levels, maintaining stock integrity, and ensuring the smooth and efficient running of a multi‑temperature warehouse. This role is key to achieving our 99%+ service level target and leading a high‑performing team within a fast‑paced foodservice environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Warehouse Manager with recruiting, training, coaching, and developing the warehouse team, ensuring strong succession planning.
- Lead and motivate a team of 25–35 colleagues, promoting a positive, inclusive, and solutions‑focused culture.
- Ensure all warehouse processes are followed, including stock rotation, quality control, and goods‑in procedures.
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, IOSHH, and hygiene across all warehouse areas.
- Manage the Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring all stock movements are accurately recorded and data integrity is maintained.
- Monitor departmental KPIs, service levels, and budget performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain warehouse equipment in safe working order and ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines and legislation.
- Promote strong communication across teams, including Transport, Customer Service, Supply Chain, and external stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, sharing ideas to enhance efficiency, engagement, and customer experience.
- Ensure security, shrinkage control, and stock integrity are upheld at all times.
- Contribute to ESG goals, food safety culture, and best‑practice standards including Cyber Essentials.
- Report any concerns relating to product safety, legality, quality, or integrity.
- Promote a safe working environment by reporting accidents, near misses, and supporting safe behaviours.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced warehouse leader with a passion for people, process, and performance. You’ll be confident managing a busy operation, motivating teams, and ensuring high standards across all areas.
Essential:
- Proven experience managing warehouse teams, ideally within foodservice, FMCG, or temperature‑controlled environments.
- Strong leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and managing performance.
- Knowledge of stock control, goods‑in processes, and warehouse operations.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety, Food Safety, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, relationship‑building, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong IT and administration skills, with experience using Warehouse Management Systems.
- A solutions‑focused approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of HACCP, IOSHH, and food safety procedures.
- Experience managing departmental budgets and cost‑control strategies.
- Experience using RF or voice‑picking technology.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday : 6:00am - 2:30pm
