Job Title: Engineering Team lead

Hours of work: Monday - Thursday 8:00 - 17:30, Friday 8:00 - 13:00.
Manages/supervises: Technical Team.
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays
Summary
We are recruiting a fully multi‑skilled engineer to lead maintenance and reliability across production equipment, building services and site security systems. The role combines electrical and mechanical fault‑finding, PLC and controls work, Lean reliability projects, CMMS ownership and leadership of the technical team while ensuring BRCGS audit‑ready documentation and strong health & safety practice.
Key responsibilities
- Fault finding and repairs: electrical and mechanical diagnostics across conveyors, packaging machines, motors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Motors and drives: test, repair and replace single and three phase motors; fault‑find starters, soft starters and VSDs.
- Heating and temperature systems: maintain steam, hot water and electric heating, sensors and PID control.
- Pneumatics and ancillaries: locate leaks, replace valves/actuators and verify sequencing with PLC logic.
- Proactive maintenance: own and optimise PPMs, implement condition monitoring and lead RCA to reduce repeat failures.
- Spare parts management: maintain critical spares list, stock control and vendor contingency planning.
- Building and site security: maintain CCTV, access control, intruder alarms, emergency lighting, standby generators, site fabric and keyholder duties.
- Documentation and compliance: keep CMMS records, calibration certificates, validation and change control audit‑ready for BRCGS.
- Leadership: coach and allocate work for technicians, lead shutdowns and provide on‑call escalation for critical incidents.
Essential skills and experience
- Recognised electrical qualification or demonstrable equivalent competency.
- Strong mechanical background with conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Practical PLC and control systems experience (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley or equivalent).
- Proven experience in food manufacturing or FMCG and working to GMP/HACCP/BRCGS standards.
- CMMS proficiency, Lean experience (5S/Kaizen/TPM) and solid health & safety knowledge.
- Ability to be a site keyholder and respond to security/building incidents.
Desirable
- NEBOSH or IOSH, Yellow/Green Belt Lean certification, VSD/drive experience, welding/fabrication, SCADA or vision systems experience and prior BRCGS audit involvement.
