Role Summary:
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring workplace safety, compliance with environmental regulations and promoting good health and safety practices within the Harvest organisation.
This role plays a central part within the business leading and managing all aspects of HSE across the business. You will cultivate a culture of proactive risk management and employee engagement.
This role offers a blend of project management as you implement new processes to meet HSE requirements along with hands-on implementation, perfect for a HSE Coordinator who thrives on challenges and is passionate about good health and safety practices. In this role you will ensure that we maintain the highest standards in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), delivering environmental responsibility at every stage of our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the HSE system continuously developing further procedures and process for best practice
- Ensure company-wide compliance with relevant legislation, standards and industry best practice
- Proactively identify and implement responses to changes in HSE legislation and industry best practice
- Establish, support and develop Health and Safety Champions within the business to build the focus of safe working leading on regular meetings
- Ensure that quality control processes and procedures align with workplace health and safety guidelines working closely with the Technical and Operational teams
- Promote a safety-first culture within the workplace across the factory and offices, emphasizing the importance of adherence to safety protocols and practices.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, reporting and corrective actions
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments
- Drive initiatives promoting HSE
- Develop and deliver induction programs, maintaining logs and compliance reports
- Participate in the setting and implementation of the company’s HSE strategy, aligned with legislative requirements and Board objectives
- Provide clear, data-driven reports on HSE performance, trends, and risk mitigation strategies, presenting reports at SLT/board level where required
- Maintain a close relationship with the company appointed HSE competent person implementing changes recommended through audits
- Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations, licences, and permits
- Lead initiatives to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and minimise environmental impact
- Develop and manage the environmental system within the business ensuring compliance and continuous improvement
- Work alongside our external partners including Qonstrue preparing data and managing reports/submissions
- Prepare for external audits including SEDEX to ensure all audit records and standards are in place
- Identify training needs within the business, preparing training material and working with the relevant areas to upskill employees alongside ensuring new starter inductions cover HSE requirements
- Maintain relationships with external contractors including our fire service providers to ensure compliance

The employee may be required to perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their line lead. These duties and responsibilities must be achievable and may be added, modified, or eliminated to meet the organisation’s changing needs and business requirements.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 4+ years industry experience in a similar role
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (required)
- NEBOSH national certificate or equivalent (desirable)
- Food Safety L3 (desirable)
- HACCP L3 (desirable)
- Audit training (desirable)
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven experience in HSE within a manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of current legislation, developing and maintain HSE systems
- Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Demonstrable experience delivering measurable improvements in safety, and environmental performance.
- Excellent team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve common goals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping.
- A business acumen partnered with a dedication to legality.
- Methodical and diligent with outstanding planning abilities.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex HSE requirements to diverse audiences.
- Strong, positive and collaborative communication and interpersonal skills
Work Environment and Location:
The role requires flexibility to access all areas of the site, while time will be spent in an office environment there is a requirement to spend time in all areas of the site which could require long periods of standing.
The factory is located in a remote area with no public transport or safe walking paths, so own/reliable transport is essential.
Package:
- Shift – Monday-Friday, 0800-1600hrs
- Salary - Up to £40,000 per year, dependant on experience and qualifications
