What you need to know about the role
We are looking for a time served refractory Bricklayer to join the British Steel family. You will currently hold a NVQ Level 2 in bricklaying.
Working as part of a team of refractory bricklayers you need to be prepared to work shifts (including weekends).
Whilst the concept of refractory bricklaying is the same as it is domestically, your main day to day duties are bricklaying (re-lining) and general maintenance of our steel refractories including furnaces and vessels. Special care needs to be taken to ensure each brick laid is tight and flush to the next brick to prevent molten metal escaping and therefore the work also includes measuring and either hand or machine cutting of bricks to ensure we have the right brick shapes and sizes.
A good attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and to tight tolerances is therefore required.
The role will also involve the use and installation of refractory monolithic materials. Knowledge of the application of these materials would be advantageous.
