Full job description

Location: Nottinghamshire
Pay: £27-£35 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)
Type: Employed
Hours: Flexible between 10am and 1pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)

At LRL Education, we work with young people who are not currently accessing school. Many have SEND, SEMH needs or are experiencing school refusal. Most have had a difficult experience of education and do not engage straight away.

This role is built on a relationship-first approach.

Before progress comes trust.
Before trust comes consistency.

If you cannot build a relationship, the rest will not work.

The role:

You will deliver 1 to 1 tuition in the home.

Sessions will focus on English GCSE/Functional Skills and Maths GCSE + Further Maths L2 qualification, alongside rebuilding confidence, routine and engagement with learning.

You will be expected to plan and deliver structured, personalised sessions based on each student’s starting point. We will provide resources and lesson plans that you will adapt and use to ensure you work at the student’s pace whilst still holding clear expectations around effort and engagement.

A big part of the role is consistency. Turning up, being calm, and following through. You will track progress, both academically and in terms of engagement, and adapt your approach where needed.

You are not just delivering lessons. You are becoming a stable, reliable adult in that young person’s week.

What makes this different

This is 1 to 1 work only. No groups.

The relationship comes first. Mentoring is not an add-on, it is central to the role.

There is structure behind what we do. You are not expected to turn up and make it up on the spot, but you are expected to think and adapt.

The focus is on long term change, not just getting through an hour.

You will be supported, but you will also be expected to deliver.

What we are looking for

You must have experience working with young people. This could be in education, SEND, alternative provision or youth work.

You need to be confident delivering English and or Maths.

You must be able to build rapport with students who may not want to engage at first.

You need to be calm, consistent and able to hold boundaries.

You must understand safeguarding and take it seriously.

Stronger applicants will have experience with SEMH or school refusal, and will understand how to break learning down for students who have gaps or low confidence.

Pay and benefits

£30 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)

Consistent, long-term, work available
