Pharmacist required to work in a fast paced environment in Suffolk.
We are looking for a professional, friendly and driven individual to join our team, working in a busy well established town center pharmacy and at our branch Pharmacy in Barrow (5 miles outside of Bury St Edmunds).
The Pharmacist will be responsible for the day to day operation of the pharmacy including the preparation and supply of medication together with advice to patients concerning the use of medicines and, where appropriate, general lifestyle guidance. In addition the Pharmacist will undertake the supervision and training of other pharmacy staff whilst supporting business development.
The Pharmacist will also ensure that the company and its staff comply with the standards documented in the most recent version of General Pharmaceutical Council’s standards of conduct, ethics and performance observing all professional, ethical and legal obligations.

Responsibilities:
- Follow standard operating procedures to ensure that the pharmacy operates in a safe and effective manner at all time.
- Dispensing prescription medicines to patients, checking dosage and ensuring medicines are correctly supplied and labelled.
- Ensure that any dispensing errors or near misses are logged in accordance with the company’s procedures and that in such an event a full investigation and remedial action takes place immediately the event is reported.
- To supervise the safe preparation of medicines.
- To keep and maintain a register of controlled drugs to comply with current legislation and professional standards.
- Liaise with doctors in the event of any query concerning patient medication to ensure accuracy and the avoidance of risk.
- Oversee the sale of over the counter medicines to ensure the supply is appropriate and the correct patient advice is given.
- To counsel and advise patients on the treatment of minor ailments, the safe use of medicines and any adverse side effects or interactions the patient may experience as a result of their medication/treatment.
- To be accountable for the preparation of dossette boxes in line with the General Pharmaceutical Services Contract and the company policy.
- To provide pharmacy services e.g. Pharmacy First Service, Hypertension Case-Finding Service, Discharge Medicines Service, Pharmacy Contraception Service, Covid and Flu vaccinations for the delivery of enhanced services to patients in line with policies adopted by the company.
- To run our travel clinic and offer a full travel health service including travel advice, vaccination and malaria prevention (Full training will be provided)
- To ensure that ordering, receiving and storage procedures for medicines are carried out in a safe and effective manner and the risk of waste is minimised.
- Ensure that delivery of medication to patients who are unable to attend the pharmacy is carried out in a safe and effective manner and that support staff adhere to relevant standard operating procedures.
- Keep up to date with current pharmacy practices, new drugs and their uses – abiding by the requirement to maintain a programme of continuing professional development [CPD].
- Maintain computerised patient records ensuring that patient confidentiality is observed together with the requirements of data protection legislation.
- To contribute to the efficient and cost effective purchase of drugs for the pharmacy and the maintenance of optimum stock levels at all times.
- Ensure compliance with all current and future NHS contractual obligations relating to essential services including waste management, repeat dispensing, self-care, signposting, public health and repeat dispensing.
