Full job description

Job Title: Cook

Responsible To: Registered Manager

Salary: £28,028

Hours: 38.5hrs per week

Job Purpose

To plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, nutritious meals that meet the dietary, cultural, and health needs of clients in accordance with Care Inspectorate standards, Food Standards Scotland regulations, and Abbeycare policies.

Key Responsibilities

· Prepare balanced, nutritious meals that meet clients’ dietary requirements.

· Comply with Health and Social Care Standards (Scotland) and HACCP.

· Maintain food safety, hygiene, and allergen management records.

· Engage clients in menu choices and support dignified dining.

· Manage stock control and budgets.

· Communicate effectively with staff, clients, and professionals.

· Follow HSE and Environmental Health safety guidance.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

· Food Hygiene certificate (Level 2 or equivalent)

· Knowledge of HACCP and allergen management

· Experience preparing meals in a care or large-scale setting

Desirable:

· SVQ Professional Cookery (SCQF Level 5+)

· Experience supporting older people

· Knowledge of Scottish Health and Social Care Standards

Skills & Competencies

· Cooking and menu-planning skills

· Understanding of specialist dietary needs (e.g., dysphagia, diabetes)

· Ability to work independently and within a team

· Strong communication and time-management abilities
