Job Title: Campaigns and Communications Officer 
Reports to: Campaigns and Communications Manager  
Line Manages: N/A 
Location: Hybrid, with occasional travel expected 

Working Hours: Full time, permanent - 35 hours per week

Job Purpose: 

CAMRA’s Campaigns and Communications activity is run by a small and dedicated team which is responsible for campaigns and public affairs, a busy press office, internal communications to members (which includes an online digital news service and twice-yearly print magazine), CAMRA’s digital platforms and social media channels.  

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a UK-wide organisation. The Campaigns and Communications Officer will work across all our communication channels under the guidance of the Senior Communications and Communications Manager, supported by the Communications and Communications Assistants. You should have a keen interest in digital and social media strategies and you will lead on this area of activity.

This role is a hybrid role with a flexible approach to location. Attendance at some events including festivals, award presentations and external meetings will be required periodically. These may take place anywhere across the UK, and the office headquarters is based in Luton. 

Key accountabilities 

Digital and social platforms 

Ability to produce engaging digital content including images, reels and other video content. 
Oversee the management of campaigns content on the national CAMRA website and What’s Brewing news platform, which includes quality control and regular updates, with support from Campaigns and Communications Assistants.  
Support other departments in developing new campaigning and consistent messaging when appropriate. 
Ensure digital content is regularly reviewed, maintained, and refreshed across all digital channels and is consistent with brand guidelines and messaging. 
Oversee and assist the delivery of CAMRA’s social media content planner to ensure growth across social media channels and work with the Marketing Team to ensure consistent messaging.  
Assist with delivery of the Campaigns and Communications operational plan. 
Provide support and advice to volunteers on digital communications, including best practice.

Press Office

Manage press enquiries and mobilise CAMRA spokespeople/responses as required. 
Take a proactive approach to identifying and responding to emerging issues and government announcements.  
Work with the Senior Campaigns and Communications Manager to produce and quality-assure materials, including press releases, statements and briefing notes. 
Develop targeted press lists and build relationships with relevant journalist contacts. 
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Internal Communications  

Provide advice and support to key volunteers and attend committee meetings as required.  
Help with the planning and production of the CAMRA podcast Pubs. Pints. People. 
Oversee the monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of digital channels and identify emerging trends. 
Oversee the production and distribution of internal communications materials via CAMRA publications and emails to members.

Person specification: 

Essential criteria

Demonstrable experience in a communications role, with a focus on digital and social media. 
Proven ability to write and edit engaging and accurate copy for different audiences across different channels. 
Good understanding of social media management tools. 
Proven video editing skills including producing reels for social media.  
Good understanding of, and eye for, effective digital design, development and deployment.

Preferred criteria

A degree or volunteer/work experience in communications, media, content development, instructional design, PR and journalism, or similar. 
Experience using a range of IT systems and applications, including creative and/or design software.  
Ability to work to tight deadlines, including producing reactive communications in the event of an emerging issue. 
Good political awareness and the ability to spot opportunities to help position CAMRA nationally.  
Experience of working with volunteers. 
Knowledge and interest in the pub and beer sector. 
Ability to travel to, and provide occasional support to, the team at CAMRA festivals.
