About Outside-In Cumbria

Outside‑In Cumbria is a charity dedicated to opening and running a welcoming, inclusive, not‑for‑profit play centre for children and families in Cumbria. We believe in accessible play, strong community connections, and creating a safe, joyful environment where families can thrive.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and organised Operational Coordinator to lead the day‑to‑day operation of our play centre and café. This is a hands‑on role combining operational leadership, staff supervision, safeguarding and health & safety, ensuring our centre runs smoothly, safely and to a high standard at all times.

You will act as the Duty Lead during operational hours, working closely with staff, volunteers, trustees and partner organisations to deliver a consistently positive experience for families.

Hours of Work

Minimum of 14 hours per week, averaged over a two week period. The role includes:

Working alternate weekends
Wednesday 9am to 2.30pm
Additional weekday hours, particularly during school holiday periods

Hours will be planned in advance but require some flexibility to support:

Busy periods
Staff cover
Events, parties and seasonal demand

The role is ideal for someone looking for part-time work with variety, who is comfortable working some weekends and flexing hours around the needs of a community venue.

Key Responsibilities

Lead daily play centre and café operations, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety and customer service
Manage staff rotas, recruitment, induction, training and ongoing support
Act as safeguarding lead and oversee health & safety, fire safety and incident reporting
Supervise stock control, cash handling and operational procedures
Build effective relationships with partners, suppliers and the landlord
Report to trustees on staffing, facilities, safety and operational performance

About You:

You will be:

Confident leading teams in a customer‑facing environment
Experienced in health & safety, safeguarding and staff supervision
Organised, calm under pressure and solutions‑focused
Passionate about community spaces for children and families
Willing to work alternate weekends and during school holiday periods

Experience in early years, hospitality, leisure, or community settings is particularly welcome.
