Job Title: IT Systems & Support Assistant
Location: Kendal, UK Department: Information Technology Reports To: IT Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and technically capable IT Systems & Support Assistant to join the IT team at the Kendal site. This role is critical in supporting the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the business technology environment across both office and operational areas.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting users, maintaining infrastructure and business systems, assisting with ongoing technology projects, and helping ensure reliable and efficient IT operations across the site. The role will work closely with internal departments, third-party suppliers, and the wider IT team to support operational continuity and ongoing business improvement initiatives.
This position is intended to strengthen the resilience and long-term capability of the IT department whilst supporting the business’s wider technology and modernisation plans.
Key Responsibilities
IT Support & User Services
o Deliver first and second line IT assistance for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers and user accounts
o Assist with onboarding and offboarding procedures, which involve preparing devices, setting up accounts and managing access
o Diagnose and fix hardware, software, networking and user related problems promptly
o Provide support to users in office, warehouse and operational settings.
Infrastructure & Systems Administration
o Provide assistance for Microsoft 365 services such as Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint and other related platforms.
o Helps with server management, networking, Wi-Fi and infrastructure administration tasks.
o Support endpoint management including, patching, system updates and device lifecycle management.
o Aid in managing meeting room technology, factory floor devices, scanners and operational equipment as needed.
o Assist with hardware procurement, device builds, stock management and lifecycle replacement planning
o Work with third party vendors
Business Systems & ERP Support
o Support business-critical systems including ERP platforms, operational software, and manufacturing-related applications.
o Assist users with ERP and business system-related issues, troubleshooting, and process support.
o Work with departments to improve workflows, reporting, and operational efficiency through technology.
o Support system upgrades, integrations, and improvement initiatives across the business.
o Assist with testing, documentation, and user support during project delivery and system changes.
Systems Reliability & Best Practice
o Assist in maintaining secure, stable, and reliable IT systems across the business.
o Support system patching, updates, endpoint maintenance, and operational best practices.
o Assist with backup monitoring, user account management, and general system housekeeping activities.
o Escalate operational or technical concerns where appropriate.
o Support documentation, governance, and IT standardisation initiatives.
Documentation & Standards
o Produce and maintain accurate IT documentation, asset records, and support procedures.
o Ensure changes and technical updates are documented in line with departmental standards.
o Maintain clear records of infrastructure, systems, and operational processes.
o Support audit and compliance activities where required
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise
o Previous experience within an IT support, systems administration, or infrastructure support role.
o Good understanding of Microsoft 365 and Windows-based environments.
o Experience supporting desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices.
o Basic understanding of networking concepts including switching, VLANs, and Wi-Fi.
o Familiarity with general IT operational best practices.
Professional Skills
o Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
o Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
o Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical users.
o Ability to work independently whilst also collaborating effectively within a team.

Desirable Experience
o Experience working within manufacturing or operational environments.
o Familiarity with Microsoft Intune and Autopilot.
o Exposure to ERP systems, reporting platforms, or operational/manufacturing software environments.
o Experience supporting IT projects and infrastructure upgrades.
o Familiarity with virtualisation platforms such as Hyper-V, VMware, or Proxmox.
