Job description

Location: Sedbergh Library

Contract Type: Fixed Term - 18 months

Hours: 15 per week

About this opportunity

Are you an energetic, highly motivated, and customer-focused individual with a passion for public service? We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to join our dynamic Library Service, providing essential frontline support in Sedbergh and across the South Lakes area.

This role is incredibly varied. You will be at the heart of the community, acting as a welcoming point of contact and ensuring every customer—from toddlers at rhyme-time to older residents seeking digital support—has a positive, inclusive, and enriching experience.

Key responsibilities:

Frontline Customer Service: act as the first point of contact for all visitors, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Promoting Reading & Literacy: Actively champion the joy of reading. You will help customers discover new authors, and support literacy initiatives across the service.
Information and IT Support: deal effectively with all customer enquiries—face-to-face, over the phone, and digitally including support with IT and digital services.
Operational Duties: Carry out essential general library duties, support building security, and perform basic health & safety tasks.
Events and Activities: Actively support and participate in a wide range of events and activities for all ages, from story times to digital workshops.
Flexible Teamwork: Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team
Be able to travel-main work base will be Sedbergh but there may be times when cover is needed in any of the South Lakes library locations including Ambleside, Windermere, Milnthorpe, Grange-over-Sands, Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale.

Communication: Highly effective communication skills, able to interact clearly and confidently with diverse customer groups.
Lone working: this role will require you to work independently in a branch and understand the principles of lone working.
