Salary: £33,527 basic + 10% shift allowance £36,879 inclusive
Shift Pattern: Four days a week alternating 10 hour day shift rota: Week 1 – Monday – Thursday 06:00 - 16:00, Week 2 – Tuesday – Friday 06:00 - 16:00

Hot Rolled Products Port Talbot is the UK’s leading supplier of Hot rolled coil, with up to 83,000 Tonnes of slab a week, processed to various thickness and grades for hundreds of different customers all over the world. Steel slab is reduced to coil and either sent direct to customers or for downstream processing through a highly complex and high speed rolling mill.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work primarily in the Heavy Roll shop, helping to keep our mill equipment and Backup roll assemblies in good working order. This work can be physically demanding. .
- Ensuring all activity is undertaken within Health, Safety and Environmental requirements and in compliance with company and legislative obligations.
- The role will require you to work as part of a team to strip and build large work roll assemblies within a tight time frame, whilst ensuring build quality and standards are achieved.
- You will be required to problem solve any issues or failures that occur to ensure product quality and operational requirements are maintained.
Additional tasks will require you to service checks and conduct engineering standards checks and improvements on the equipment in line with preventative maintenance programmes.

What you will need:
We’re looking for someone who brings both technical skill and a practical, team-focused approach. You’ll need:
- A time-served apprenticeship and an NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds qualification, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
- Solid experience with mechanical fitting, including bearings
- Ability to use measuring equipment such as verniers and micrometres
- A valid driving licence
- A strong commitment to safe systems of work
- A good attitude to teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement
It would also be an advantage (but not essential) to have:
- Experience operating machinery, lathe and pillar drill
Experience using an overhead crane
