Structures Inspector
Due to continued growth and work winning success, Edwards Diving Services are seeking a Structures Inspector to support our Inspection Team. We are a busy Marine and Civil Engineering Company based in Caerphilly, employing around 50 people who conduct a wide variety of specialist access engineering roles, including commercial diving and confined space operations and in wide variety of environments.
The successful applicant will be self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a positive approach and an aptitude for problem solving. You will need to be comfortable working within confined spaces and within watercourses (full training will be provided). The role will involve both site works and being office based during the report writing, RAMS production and project planning phases of projects.

You will need to have excellent organisational skills, adept IT skills, the ability to prioritise your workload effectively and be able to work under your own supervision, with the assistance of the Inspection Team Manager. You will be happy to work as part of a close-knit team, discuss with clients their requirements, work independently to complete excellent quality reports and meet deadlines that delivers our high standard of service.
The Role entails:
- Inspection of variety of structures including culverts, bridges and retaining walls
- Leading inspection teams
- Preparation of reports / CAD drawings / schedules of defects
- Undertaking complex one-off projects
Required skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Must be thorough, conscientious, with a keen eye for detail
- Professional and confident communication skills
- Excellent ability to speak and write in clear and concise English
- Confidently proficient in using IT especially MS outlook, Word, Excel and AutoCAD
- Degree Educated (preferably Civil or Structural Engineering background, but other relevant or transferrable degrees will be considered including HNC/HND)
- Ability to work as part of a team, supporting others and giving/taking direction
- Ability to produce well-written, professional inspection reports, quotations, emails
- Sound technical understanding of construction materials and forms
- Knowledge / experience of investigation methods of common construction materials Happy and able to work outdoors, including in waterways and confined spaces Comfortable to work at heights and within confined spaces
- A knowledge of structures, construction materials and common associated defects
- Flexible working pattern
- Competent swimmer
- Full UK driver’s licence
Desirable Skills :
- Confined Space Trained (training can be provided)
- Working towards BICS qualification
- Candidates are required to have a reasonable level of fitness as the work can involve walking over rough terrain, up and down steps and steep embankments, the use of ladders and scaffold and in potentially adverse weather conditions.
- Successful candidates will undertake drug and alcohol screening prior to and during employment. This is strictly enforced by ourselves and our clients.
- Experience of bridge inspection or maintenance (highways or rail) and relevant UK standards. We may consider candidates with other structural inspection experience if it is relevant.
We are looking for someone to commit to a full time role (40 hours a week) plus the ability to work overtime and stay away from home periodically. Salary and terms will be competitive and negotiable depending on the candidate. All EDS staff benefit from a competitive package including private healthcare and a stakeholder pension.
Pay: £26,500.00-£37,000.00 per year
