Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated Apprentice HGV Mechanic to join our team. This paid apprenticeship offers a valuable opportunity to develop essential skills in vehicle maintenance and repair, specialising in heavy goods vehicles such as lorries and large agricultural vehicles. The role involves hands-on training in mechanical and electrical systems, with a focus on safety, quality, and customer service. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a keen interest in vehicle mechanics, possess strong problem-solving abilities, and be eager to learn within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with the maintenance, inspection, and repair of HGVs, including lorries and trailers
Support the diagnosis of mechanical and electrical faults using schematics and diagnostic tools
Learn to operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery safely and effectively
Participate in assembly and disassembly of vehicle components during repairs or upgrades
Conduct basic electrical work
Assist with equipment repair and routine maintenance tasks to ensure vehicles meet safety standards
Support heavy lifting operations using appropriate lifting equipment while adhering to health and safety protocols
Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment to promote safety and efficiency

Experience

No prior experience necessary; however, candidates should possess a strong interest in mechanical systems and vehicle maintenance
Basic knowledge of mechanical principles or previous exposure to fabrication, welding, or electrical work is advantageous
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, or schematics is beneficial but not essential as training will be provided
Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and work in various environmental conditions
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and safety procedures are highly valued

This apprenticeship provides comprehensive training in heavy vehicle maintenance with a placement within a local college and the potential to gain recognised qualifications within the LGV industry. We welcome enthusiastic individuals committed to developing their skills in the automotive industry.

Driving license is desirable but not essential.

Pay: From £25,000.00 per year
