The Volunteer Coordinator will lead the development, coordination and sustainability of DAVSS’ volunteer programme, ensuring volunteers are safely recruited, effectively trained and well-supported to deliver high-quality, trauma-informed services to individuals affected by domestic abuse.
The role is central to embedding a consistent, structured and sustainable volunteer model across DAVSS services, including Support Hub, Support to Court and Recovery & Prevention. The postholder will ensure volunteers are equipped to contribute safely and meaningfully, while maintaining clear role boundaries, safeguarding standards and a survivor-led approach.
This role also plays a key part in strengthening capacity across the organisation, reducing pressure on frontline staff, and supporting the ongoing development of a resilient and scalable service model.

Volunteer Recruitment, Induction and Training
- Lead on the recruitment of volunteers in line with safer recruitment practices, including advertising, screening, interviewing and onboarding
- Coordinate and deliver structured induction programmes to ensure volunteers are fully prepared for their roles
- Identify skills, experience and development needs to support effective role matching
- Coordinate and support the delivery of ongoing training, ensuring volunteers are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to carry out their roles
Volunteer Coordination and Support
- Act as the main point of contact for all volunteers, providing guidance, support and regular supervision
- Develop and manage volunteer rotas across service areas, ensuring effective deployment in line with service demand
- Monitor volunteer wellbeing and provide appropriate support, escalating concerns where necessary
- Foster a positive, inclusive and supportive volunteer culture where contributions are recognised and valued
Safeguarding and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all volunteers understand and work within DAVSS safeguarding policies, procedures and risk thresholds
- Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to maintain safe practice across all volunteer activity
- Ensure clear role boundaries are maintained and that volunteers are not exposed to inappropriate levels of risk
Monitoring, Evaluation and Development
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of volunteer recruitment, training, supervision and activity
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation by collecting and collating volunteer feedback and insight
- Support the development of improved feedback mechanisms to strengthen service delivery and impact reporting
- Use learning to inform continuous improvement of the volunteer programme
Partnership and Internal Working
- Work collaboratively with staff across all DAVSS services to ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into delivery
- Attend team meetings and contribute to service planning and development
General Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with DAVSS policies and procedures, including safeguarding, GDPR and health and safety.
- Maintain accurate records in line with organisational and funder requirements
- Keep up to date with best practice in volunteering, safeguarding and domestic abuse support

Person Specification
Essential Knowledge & Experience
- Experience of coordinating, supporting or managing staff or volunteers
- Understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on individuals and families
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles and safe working practices
- Experience of delivering or coordinating training or group learning
- Experience of working within a multi-agency or community-based environment

- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
