Full job description

VJT are looking for a Trade Counter Operative to join our Head Office in Ashford Kent.

The purpose of this role is to provide excellent customer service to existing and new customers on the trade counter whilst learning all aspects of the business and continuously gaining product knowledge.

This is a permanent, full time role and working hours are 40 per week, Mon - Fri to be worked between the hours of 7am-6pm.

There is a requirement for working hours on a Saturday 7am – 11am on a bi-weekly rotational basis.

There is eligibility to earn up to 25% commission in this role.

The target start date for the role is Monday 29th June 2026

Responsibilities

Building & developing relationships with customers, suppliers and other employees
To work closely with the sales team
Preparing new displays for the trade counter with offers and new products
To create & maintain good customers relationship
Picking goods
Processing orders using the company system
Provide a fast, friendly and flexible service
To provide excellent customer service
To fulfil daily tasks given by the Trade Counter Manager
To provide advice on VJT products
Maintaining a good level of product knowledge
Reactively handling trade counter enquiries

Experience

Ideally have good knowledge of the construction market
Knowledge of tools & fixings
Experience of providing good customer service
Experience of working in a customer service environment
Experience of dealing with customer queries efficiently

Pay: Up to £30,000.00 per year
