Tool Maintenance and Development Technician
During an exciting time of expansion, we have a new vacancy for a Tool Maintenance and Development Technician to join our team based at our Castleham site. This role will be responsible for establishing and managing a professional, traceable, and scalable tooling maintenance and development system to support our current operations and future growth within injection moulding and extrusion.
This is a full-time permanent role working 40 hours per week. Shifts are between 6am - 2pm, 8am - 4pm and 2pm - 10pm.
What are the main duties of this role?
- Create, maintain and develop a complete tooling asset register covering moulds, dies and tooling assemblies.
- Establish tooling lifecycle standards, service history records and full traceability across all tooling assets.
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance schedules for critical tooling.
- Define and manage decision-making criteria for in-house maintenance, subcontracted repair, refurbishment and replacement activities.
- Introduce standard work instructions, inspection routines and tooling management processes.
- Carry out tooling repairs, modifications and adjustments where urgency or operational requirements dictate.
- Support complex tooling interventions and ensure root cause analysis is completed following tooling failures.
- Manage relationships with external tooling suppliers and repair partners, including performance, quality and cost effectiveness reviews.
- Provide technical input into new tooling, injection moulding machinery and extrusion tooling projects.
- Ensure all new tooling is introduced with appropriate documentation, maintenance plans and lifecycle management processes.
- Act as the technical authority for tooling standards and support the development of a professional, data-led tooling culture.
What we are looking for:
- Toolmaking background within injection moulding, extrusion or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of tooling maintenance, repair processes and tooling failure modes.
- Relevant mechanical, manufacturing or production engineering qualification.
- Ability to understand, interpret and work from technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience of creating and documenting maintenance processes and procedures.
- Ability to make evidence-based technical decisions and recommend practical solutions.
- Experience of working independently and collaborating with senior stakeholders and operational teams.
- A flexible and proactive approach to supporting business objectives.
- Demonstrable commitment to safe working practices.
Desirable:
- Experience managing external tooling suppliers and subcontract repair providers.
- Exposure to tooling, machinery or capital investment projects.
- Familiarity with CMMS, asset management or maintenance planning systems.
- Experience within injection moulding and/or extrusion manufacturing environments.

Reporting Line
- Reports directly to the Operations Manager
- Functional collaboration with Toolroom and Production teams.
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Establish a complete tooling asset register.
- Implement documented maintenance strategies for all critical tooling.
- Reduce unplanned tooling-related downtime.
- Develop clear and effective make-versus-buy decisions for tooling maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure all new tooling enters production with full documentation, traceability and lifecycle management plans in place.
