One You Kent Service overview
One You Kent is Kent’s free, countywide lifestyle and wellbeing service, supporting adults to make positive, sustainable changes to improve their health and reduce the risk of long-term conditions. The service provides evidence-based support including smoking cessation (whole of Kent), weight management, physical activity and healthy lifestyle interventions (East Kent only), delivered through a strengths-based, person-centred approach. Working closely with GP practices, Primary Care Networks, local authorities and community and voluntary sector partners, One You Kent is embedded within local communities to ensure support is accessible, inclusive and responsive to local need. The service plays a key role in reducing health inequalities across Kent through partnership working, community engagement and flexible delivery models.
Role Purpose:
The Communications and Engagement Officer will lead on community engagement, partnership development and communications activity for the One You Kent Service across a defined locality (East or West Kent), supporting county-wide priorities where required.
The postholder will work at neighbourhood and community level to build strong, lasting relationships with local partners, raise awareness of the service and increase appropriate referrals. This includes engagement with a wide range of stakeholders such as local authorities, primary and secondary care, PCNs, leisure services, community and voluntary sector organisations and local residents.
Alongside face-to-face engagement, the role will take responsibility for delivering effective digital, marketing and media activity to promote One You Kent, ensuring consistent, engaging and accessible communications across all channels.
The role supports ABL’s strengths-based, asset-based approach, focusing on partnership, co-production and innovation rather than duplication of existing provision. This is a varied, dynamic role requiring flexibility, organisation and confidence in working independently and collaboratively. No two days will be the same.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a proactive and creative individual to support community engagement, partnerships, communications, and marketing activity across One You Kent service areas. The successful candidate will implement and support the delivery of the ABL Community Engagement Strategy, building and maintaining strong relationships with local partners, GP practices, Primary Care Networks, and community stakeholders to increase awareness of the service and strengthen referral pathways. The role involves representing One You Kent at health forums, events, and community meetings, delivering presentations, supporting co-production activities, and maintaining accurate partnership and engagement records. You will manage and develop engaging digital communications across social media, websites, email campaigns, and other online platforms, working closely with ABL’s central communications team to deliver impactful marketing campaigns that raise the profile of the service and support KPI delivery. Responsibilities also include creating and managing digital content such as artwork, photography, video, audio, and written materials, identifying emerging digital trends and opportunities for innovation, and leading on lead generation activity. In addition, you will support media and promotional activity by identifying press opportunities, drafting press releases, statements, articles, and case studies, and contributing to media coverage across print, broadcast, and online channels. The role also requires monitoring and evaluating engagement and communications activity, producing reports on referral trends and campaign performance, providing updates against agreed objectives, and contributing to service planning and continuous improvement. Flexibility is essential, as occasional evening or weekend work, event support, and service delivery cover may be required.
