Clayton Engineering Limited specialise in the design and manufacture of launch and recovery equipment for lifeboats. As part of the RNLI, we support them to save lives at sea by manufacturing high quality equipment and sustaining its life in service. Our vehicles are often featured on the BBC TV Program 'Saving Lives at Sea’ and can be seen at many of the RNLI Boathouses across the country. The company has a site based in Knighton in Mid Wales on the Powys / Shropshire / Herefordshire border. Easily commutable from Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Leominster or Hereford. LD1, LD7, LD8, SY7, SY8, SY9, HR5, HR6
We are currently looking for a Production Engineer to support the operations team with all manufacturing, operations, and engineering activities. Contribute towards Operational Excellence and LEAN manufacturing programs in accordance with the company quality system and ISO9001:2015 accreditation. Duties include manufacturing process optimisation and troubleshooting. Creating and updating SOPs to support manufacturing operations. Leading new equipment purchases and implementation to support process optimisation and monitoring performance metrics via KPIs. Development of new product routings and establishment within the company ERP system (Winman).
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Engineering Support to Daily Operations
- Supervise Production teams to ensure all tasks are completed effectively
- Support the Operations team to generate and maintain standard operating procedures
- Identify and Implement Process Improvements & Efficiencies
- Capital Equipment justification, specification, and procurement
- Produce Informative Concession Request Documentation when required
- Support the Supply Chain Manager to review cost savings in part designs
- Create process workflow routing & Manufacturing BOM’s
- Support and implement continuous improvement
- Support & Maintain Quality, Production Eng & Production Control elements of the ERP System
- Contribute towards efficiency programs including value stream analysis
- Support the Senior management team with implementing change management initiatives
- Work closely with Engineering and Production Control departments
- Any additional engineering activities as required to support the business
- Ensure all operational activities follow company Health & Safety Policies
- Work responsibly and in compliance with the company policies, procedures, and terms of employment
- Liaise with external subcontractors, as required, to ensure the delivery of outsourced components is managed to suit delivery requirements
The ideal candidate will ideally be able to provide an innovative, keen, and analytical yet practical approach. They will be able to work to and achieve project milestones, completion, and budget targets. Someone who is a self-starter, with proven track record of working as an individual and as part of a team.
