About Us

Modern Accountancy is a growing and forward-thinking accountancy practice specialising in limited companies, sole traders and small businesses across the UK.

We pride ourselves on providing practical, straightforward advice and building long-term relationships with our clients. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an organised, proactive and personable Assistant Practice Manager to support the Managing Director with the day-to-day running of the limited company side of the practice.

This is a varied role that combines elements of accountancy, client management, administration and office management. No two days are quite the same.

For the right person, there is significant opportunity for progression as the business grows, including the potential to take on increasing responsibility within the practice over time.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will play a key role in supporting our limited company clients and helping ensure the smooth operation of the practice.

Responsibilities will include:

- Answering incoming calls from prospective and existing limited company clients

- Managing the limited company inbox and responding to client enquiries

- Chasing clients for records and information required for accounts and tax work

- Conducting ID verification and anti-money laundering checks

- Onboarding new clients and preparing engagement documentation

- Registering new limited companies with Companies House

- Internal credit control and debtor management

- Assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts

- Reviewing client information and analysing records before accounts preparation

- Assisting with journals and accounting adjustments where appropriate

- Preparing working papers and supporting documentation

- Maintaining client records and practice management systems

- Supporting the Managing Director with administrative and operational tasks

- Liaising with clients, HMRC and Companies House where required

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, professional and enjoys working with people.

You may currently be:

- An Accounts Assistant looking for a broader and more varied role

- An experienced Administrator or Office Manager with accountancy practice experience

- Studying towards AAT qualifications

- Looking for a long-term career within a growing accountancy practice

Essential Requirements

- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and spreadsheets

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload

- Professional and friendly telephone manner

- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle due to our rural location

Desirable

- Previous accountancy practice experience

- AAT qualified or currently studying AAT

- Experience using Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Dext or similar accounting software

- Experience with Companies House filings

- Experience of client onboarding and practice administration

Hours

Full-time: 35 hours per weekMonday to Friday

8:30am – 4:00pm

30-minute lunch break

Part-time applicants will also be considered.

Location & Hybrid Working

The role is based at our office in Astley, Worcestershire during the training and probation period.

Following successful completion of probation and training, hybrid working will be available, with a mixture of office and home working depending on business needs and individual performance.
