About the Role
As a Site Chemist, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe acceptance, inspection, storage and processing of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste at our Brownhills site.
You will be responsible for ensuring all incoming waste complies with relevant legislation, environmental permits and internal procedures, while supporting the wider team with technical expertise and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Checking all incoming waste consignments have correct documentation (Consignment Notes / Duty of Care paperwork)
- Ensuring all paperwork is completed accurately and retained appropriately
- Carrying out waste acceptance checks to confirm safe storage, processing or transfer
- Sampling incoming waste and arranging analysis via the internal laboratory
- Inspecting waste in line with BAT requirements and Sector Guidance Note 5.06
- Recording waste acceptance and any non‑conformances within SAP
- Routing waste to ensure cost efficiency while maintaining compliance
- Ensuring all waste is correctly labelled and stored in line with permits and guidance
- Processing waste through bulking, sorting, segregating and repacking activities
- Completing outgoing waste documentation
- Supporting other site staff with technical guidance when required
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
- Acting as a trained First Aider (once qualified)
- Supporting other site teams where required
You will also:
- Promote a strong safety culture and take responsibility for your own and others’ wellbeing
- Report incidents, near misses and improvement opportunities
- Ensure contractors and visitors comply with site safety procedures
- Support environmental and sustainability initiatives including waste reduction and energy efficiency
Who We’re Looking For:
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- HNC or Degree in Chemistry (or a related scientific field)
- Strong understanding of health & safety and compliance principles
- Competent in Microsoft Office
- Experience within the waste industry is desirable
- SAP experience is desirable
