Job Title: Operations Supervisor

Reporting to: Operations Manager
Job Purpose
The Site Supervisor supports the Operations Manager in the day-to-day running of a busy operational recycling wood site. This is a hands-on role, responsible for supervising site activities, staff, and contractors, ensuring safe working practices, maintaining production flow, and supporting compliance with environmental and health & safety requirements.
The role is based on site within an operational environment and involves direct supervision of operatives and plant activity.
Key Responsibilities
Site Operations
- Supervise daily site activities across wood recycling, biomass processing.
- Coordinate staff and plant to ensure safe, efficient material handling and processing.
- Monitor site housekeeping, traffic management, and segregation of materials.
- Support the operation and effective use of heavy plant equipment (loaders, excavators, shredders, crushers, etc.)
- Act as first point of contact for operational issues during shifts.
Team Supervision
- Supervise site operatives, plant operators and weighbridge staff as directed by the Site Manager
- Allocate daily tasks and ensure staff follow safe systems of work.
- Carry out toolbox talks, daily briefings, and on-the-job guidance.
- Monitor attendance, timekeeping and performance, escalating issues to the Site Manager
- May be asked to support at other A&A Recycling sites periodically within the Midlands.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Enforce Health & Safety rules and site procedures at all times.
- Conduct daily site checks and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits and waste acceptance procedures.
- Report accidents, near misses, non-conformances, and unsafe acts.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulator visits.
Weighbridge & Administration Support
- Support weighbridge operations when required.
- Ensure waste documentation and records are completed accurately.
- Report daily operational issues, downtime, and incidents to the Operations Manager
Equipment & Maintenance
- Carry out basic equipment checks and ensure defects are reported.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams and contractors as required.
- Minimise downtime by identifying and reporting issues promptly.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Experience in a recycling, waste, biomass, aggregates, or similar operational environment
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements
- Experience supervising staff in a hands-on site role.
- Confidence working around heavy plant and machinery.
- Word/ Excel experience- comfortable with professional scale emails.
Desirable:
- IOSH qualification or willingness to work towards
- Plant tickets (loading shovel, excavator, telehandler, etc.)
- Weighbridge knowledge
Normal Hours 7am- 5pm Monday – Friday.
Some flexibility to cover a Saturday on very busy occasions.
Hourly rate- competitive
Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
