Plant and Transport Coordinator

Job Purpose
The Plant and Transport Coordinator is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating plant equipment, tipper muck-away operations, transport logistics, and compliance activities to support construction projects. The role ensures that plant, vehicles, drivers, and waste movements are managed efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with legislation and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily allocation of Drivers and Vehicles for operations and deliveries across multiple sites.
- Plan and coordinate tipper muck-away operations, ensuring the timely removal and disposal of excavated materials.
- Book and manage haulage companies, tipper fleets, and disposal or recycling facilities to meet project requirements.
- Schedule deliveries, collections, and transportation of plant, equipment, and materials.
- Liaise with site managers, clients, suppliers, subcontractors, drivers, and disposal sites to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Arrange plant hire, off-hire, servicing, and repairs in line with operational demands.
- Ensure waste movements comply with environmental legislation and company procedures.
- Coordinate waste transfer documentation, including Waste Transfer Notes (WTNs), hazardous waste documentation where applicable, and disposal records.
- Verify that all waste is transported to appropriately licensed recycling or disposal facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of plant, vehicles, transport movements, waste volumes, fuel usage, hire costs, and asset locations.
- Ensure all plant and transport documentation, including inspections, maintenance records, operator licences, insurance, and compliance certificates, are current and accurately maintained.
- Monitor vehicle MOTs, servicing, inspections, tachograph requirements, and operator compliance where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, environmental regulations, DVSA requirements, FORS standards (where applicable), and company policies.
- Respond promptly to operational issues, breakdowns, emergency plant requirements, and last-minute transport changes.
- Assist with budgeting, cost control, supplier performance monitoring, and reporting on plant, transport, and muck-away expenditure.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, compliance, and service delivery.
Skills and ExperienceEssential

- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience in plant, transport, logistics, or construction coordination.
- Experience coordinating tipper muck-away operations and waste disposal logistics.
- Good understanding of waste management legislation and environmental compliance.
- Good knowledge of transport regulations and plant operations.
- Experience within the construction, civil engineering, demolition, or utilities sector.
- Knowledge of fleet management or plant management software.
- CPC Transport Management qualification or equivalent.
- Understanding of LOLER, PUWER, FORS, DVSA compliance, and waste carrier regulations.
- Knowledge of aggregate, recycling, and waste disposal processes.

Working Conditions
- Office-based with regular communication with operational sites, drivers, suppliers, and disposal facilities.

Pay: From £42,500.00 per year
