Reporting to the Transport Operations Manager, you’ll oversee the transport operation on an earlies and lates shift pattern, ensuring customer requirements are met, service levels remain high and all activity is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with company policies. You’ll support the Transport Operations Manager in developing processes, managing the team and driving continuous improvement.

We’re offering a salary of up to £35,600 dependant on experience and qualifications, 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays), with the option to buy additional days. You’ll also have access to high‑street discounts, cycle‑to‑work scheme, a workplace pension and many other perks.
Hours-Monday to Friday, 06:00–15:00/11:00–20:00
What you’ll do on a typical day

Oversee the transport operation, ensuring customer service levels and operational requirements are consistently achieved

Manage and support the drivers and shunters, ensuring performance, conduct and behaviours meet company standards

Plan and organise staff shifts to ensure all runs are covered in a cost‑effective and efficient manner

Liaise with Customer Services and the Planning Team to resolve service issues and operational needs

Update Time & Attendance systems and respond to related queries

Produce daily reports on equipment failures, VORs, service levels and ongoing issues

Maintain accurate customer reports and ensure deadlines are met

Work with the business to plan vehicle availability and maximise utilisation

Identify training needs through performance reviews and support development plans

Ensure legal compliance including tacho collection, driver hours, WTD and transport legislation

Conduct licence checks and ensure only competent, authorised individuals operate LGV vehicles

Ensure adherence to SOPs and Health & Safety procedures

Manage return‑to‑work interviews, investigations and disciplinary processes with support from the Transport Operations Manager

Ensure adequate cover during peak periods, holidays, sickness or absence

Carry out any other reasonable duties as required
What you need to succeed at XPO
Essential

Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop teams

Desirable

CPC in National Road Haulage

Experience supervising or managing a team in a transport environment

Experience improving employee engagement

Understanding of change management practices

Ability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast‑moving operation

Working knowledge of transport legislation, WTD and driver hours
